Former Board Member Brian Schofield Returns to TAG as Gallery Ups the Ante for 2015 in Cornwall Ontario

Wyatt LORNA Brian FEB 19 2015The board of TAG (tagcornwall.ca) are proud to announce a new direction for 2015!

“We’ve already seen results from our new board format and have received a lot of positive feedback from area artists” said TAG President Wyatt Walsh.
After extensive meetings and discussion the board is focusing on some initiatives for 2015.
.
TAG will be hosting an event for area art groups to chat and find common goals and partnerships.
.
TAG is also entering into discussions with the Port Theatre to host two film festivals, one regional and one focused on Francophone films.
.
As the defacto art centre of Cornwall the board feels that we need to branch out and partner with venues and agencies and work together to help elevate the arts in the community and to also help artists earn more money and be showcased.
.
TAG also will be bringing back BUSKERVILLE by hosting weekly open mike sessions for spoken word, poetry and acoustic music as well as try and work with the city to have a weekend street event on Pitt Street.
.
We want downtown to be busier on weekends and help business evolve.
.
50/50 Fund raising auctions will be held to raise money for Artists and the Gallery.
.
TAG will be sending out emails shortly to its nearly 200 members seeking volunteers under its new volunteer coordinator.
.
A stronger focus will be directed at earning local artists money and gaining them exposure.
.
More changes are expected and the gallery will be closed to do a full inventory of its Permanent Collection.  Visit www.Tagcornwall.ca for updates.
.
Former board member Brian Schofield of Blue Heron Woodworking has returned and will be presenting a report to council at the upcoming budget session.    Mr. Schofield’s commitment to the arts is especially strong.
.
After an easing in position that saw a few members leave and a few new faces arrive TAG President Wyatt Walsh said that it’s a strong mix focused on working together to improve the arts & culture community in Cornwall and the region.
.
He hopes to see and hear from many of the artists of different mediums during the year and hopes more attend our board meetings.
.
Note: this media release was sent to all Cornwall area media Thursday evening.

  1. The revolving board of directors door continues.

Hugger the board is adjusting. We have a strong and dedicated group right now. I’m actually impressed. The big question is why the other media ignored this release…

  3. Perhaps it was because of the continuing drama surrounding the TAG board of directors. The drama surrounding the BOD of TAG is worthy of any soap opera on TV now.

I’d like to see TAG’s city funding yanked until they get their act together. The revolving board of directors door drama has to stop for people to actually believe TAG is viable and valuable to this city.

Hugger honestly there is no drama. Really.

  5. If there is no drama explain the revolving door board of directors. The number of changes in the board of directors in the last few months is abnormal for a properly operating organization.

Hugger I can’t speak for past boards. I think with the current board there was an urgency to make sure the gallery survived and that it had a board. Some people have different visions. That doesn’t make it drama. Some people don’t realize the commitment. That’s not drama either. I think everyone that has been on this incarnation of the board had a vision and meant well.

Personally I’m excited about the upcoming initiatives and I think that’s where we all should focus and create some magic in 2015.

  7. It`s a “he said, he said” situation. To me when there are so many changes that have taken place over the last few months that is drama. Something happened or is happening to make those changes on the BoD.

Don`t get me wrong I`d like to see TAG succeed. I`ve seen some of the suggested changes \ programs suggested and they would be good for TAG and Cornwall.

Well Hugger I hope to see you sign up and participate in the gallery! Btw YAC had quite the board change as well. I think if you checked a few of the area boards you’d see more change than you think.

  9. Me and art galleries? It won`t happen!!

    What is the YAC?

  10. Mr.Schofield will be an excellent addition to the board. I know him from when i was on payroll at Habitat for Humanity S.V, he was on the board of directors and always had valuable input and a very positive attitude towards getting things done correctly. It’s nice to see he is still volunteering his time to the community.

Your Arts Council. They’ve had their own “drama” . 🙂

  12. NO DRAMA.!!!!!!! Omg. You kidding me. It’s a joke. Just like rookie councillor Hubert who is now complaining after 2 1/2 months into her term that it’s been too time consuming. Who voted this princess in council. You not know what you were getting into. Hope your not shooting for a political career cause you just shot yourself in the foot. 45 1/2 more months to go.

  13. Marc Cloutier and I agree. A rookie councilor complaining about the job as too time consuming 2½ months in? What is she going to do for the remaining time?
