(South Dundas Mayor Evonne Delegarde with the Brittons)
Morrisburg – In an impressive display of community support, the Fundraiser for the Morrisburg Animal Rescue raised twice their target. Ethel and Bill Britton were the centre of attention at the fundraiser at the Royal Canadian Legion in Morrisburg yesterday. After their barn burned down a group of supporters and friends led by Kim Lalonde organized the fundraiser at the legion to raise money to help rebuild. The target of the event was $5000 but by the end of the afternoon Kim estimated that the total raised was going to be over $10,000.
With an indoor yard sale, silent auction, chili lunch, bake sale, 50/50 draws, coffee sales and group donations the money just kept rolling in. In the kitchen there were quite a variety of crock pots filled with chili from a number of volunteer cooks with smiling cheerful helpers to spoon it out.
There were several tables with baked goods for sale.
By the end of the afternoon everything had been sold in the yard sale and the baked goods tables.
There was so much activity going on at the legion that it was hard to follow everything. On top of all the fundraising activities there were a number of performers on stage providing entertainment for the crowd. Even Elvis showed up to support the Brittons.

A number of local politicians showed up to give their support to the Brittons. South Dundas Mayor Evonne Delegarde, South Stormont Councillor Dave Smith and even MP Guy Lauzon made a brief appearance.
It was an incredible outpouring of support. The way the community responded to support the Brittons and their Animal Rescue is indeed heart warming. It is a great example of how, when tragedy strikes, friends, family and neighbours will reach out to lend a hand to help and support you in your hour of need.
