Time flies when you’re having fun (well..fun-ish might be more accurate cause sometimes life is a pain in the ass). This year the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) turns 40.
The OIAF exists to celebrate the new, the ground-breaking and the exceptional animated works that are out there. We don’t care if you won awards or not. We don’t care if you studied under Chuck Jones or Frederick Back. We don’t care if you studied Preston Blair or graduated from there or there.
You can scribble, paint, scratch, etch, scrape… whatever. We just want to see work that is original, that has some urgency, that has something interesting to say.
With formalities out of the way, we are writing here to invite you, your friends, colleagues, classmates, moms, dads, cousins to enter short films, features, tv series, music videos, psas and commercials that were made after May 29th, 2015. Oh…and get this.. we (like most of our cool animation festival colleagues) don’t charge an entry fee. We don’t feel it’s right. Why on earth should you pay us to just consider showing your film? Hell, if you get your film selected, we’ll actually pay indie artists a small fee, plus all competition participants get a festival pass and a hotel room! Can you imagine!?
So… anyway…where were we… okay, right…we’re officially taking entry submissions now. You might want to get your submission in early because it’s cold in Ottawa and we have nothing better to do. Once it starts to warm up though…well…we lose focus, sobriety and want to play outside more.
The deadline for entry forms is Friday, May 13th, 2016 and the deadline for preview DVDs or submission URLs is Friday, May 27th, 2016

OIAF40 happens this September 21 to 25 and we’ll announce the competition and showcase finalists in July. It’s going to be a hum-dinger (what exactly is a hum-dinger? it sounds wrong, very wrong) of an anniversary party and for you American folk, our dollar is pretty low so book your hotel and pass soon. Plus, you can look around for housing should Donald Trump be elected. Either way, you don’t want to miss OIAF40! (exclamation mark is added to make it seem super duper soul splashing exciting).
