CORNWALL ONTARIO – The post game interviews said it all. Toronto hosted the Vancouver Canucks who dropped their 8th straight loss.
The Leafs have a modest 3 game win streak after the scrappy win. Coach Babcock could barely hide his smile as he talked about the chippy affair that had some strong hits on both sides in the penalty filled affair.
Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller came to his rookie D man’s aid after Matt Martin mauled him to the side of the net which led to a line scrap including the Leaf’s goalie making the skate down.
Austen Matthews and Mitch Marner were on the ice and did what scorers are supposed to do, find a partner and do a slow dance.
Martin was at his best in the game which led to said post game smiles on Mike Babcock’s face. Seeing the collapse of the Islanders this year shows the value of a player like Martin, even in today’s NHL. He racked up 19 penalty minutes on 16 shifts for the night in less than 10 minutes of ice time.
Tyler Bozak and James Van Riemsdyk notched 3 points each and Nazim Kadri is maintaining his strong play with big hits and points with a goal, 20 PIMS and 70% from the face off circle.
The Leafs chances for a play off spot seem to be getting stronger with each game that passes. They are now 2 points behind 2nd place Tampa in the Atlantic log jam.
What do you think Leaf Nation? How valuable is Matt Martin to this club and do the Leafs get into the play offs?

I’m sure some Leafs fans are already planning the Stanley Cup parade. Though I think November is a little early to be planning fore the playoffs. Every win counts, but……….
