UPDATE: Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision

Kingston Police has arrested a 53-year-old local man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
At 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, emergency responders were dispatched to the area of Princess Street just west of Midland Avenue where a female pedestrian was located. She was transported to a local hospital where she was treated in intensive care for approximately 14 hours before succumbing to her injuries.
From video surveillance and vehicle debris left at the scene, investigators were able to narrow down the suspect vehicle as being a silver or grey older model Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade.
On December 10, 2016, detectives received information about a specific sports utility vehicle. At approximately 1:15 p.m. the vehicle was located in the city of Kingston and the 53-year-old owner of the vehicle was arrested at the same address and brought into custody.
The accused will be held overnight in police cells and attend a bail hearing on December 11, 2016. He is facing a single Criminal Code charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
While Kingston Police is confident the person responsible for striking the female victim and fleeing the scene has been apprehended, the investigation continues to collect as much eye-witness, documentary, and tangible evidence as possible to secure a conviction.
