Nationals welcome River Drivers on Sunday

The Cornwall Nationals have a pair of road contests to kick off the weekend ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated home-ice matchup with Berlin.

Cornwall travels to Watertown this evening (7:30 p.m.) and visits Danbury tomorrow night (7:15 p.m.).

On Sunday afternoon at the Ed Lumley Arena inside the Civic Complex, the Nationals will renew their heated rivalry with the Berlin River Drivers. Federal Hockey League action begins at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for seniors/students and $5 for children under the age of 12.

While the FHL isn’t known for fisticuffs, these two teams clearly dislike each other on the ice. In their last meeting in Cornwall, the Nationals and River Drivers combined for 105 penalty minutes.

The expansion Nationals will look to capitalize on momentum at the box office, as attendance has been on the rise at recent home games.

Meanwhile, general manager Basem Awwad has signed Storm Adams, a 24-year-old forward from Akwesasne. Adams has recently played NCAA Division 3 hockey for Morrisville State College.

Adams will help replace speedy forward MJ Graham, who has signed with the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
