Charges laid in Benefit Fraud Case,
Clinic owner, employee and 10 TTC employees face charges

In January 2015, the Toronto Police Service received a complaint from the Toronto Transit Commission and Manulife alleging false medical claims being submitted through Health Fit in Mississauga and Toronto.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid and are presently before the courts.
In November 2016, Manulife reported a similar complaint on behalf of the City of Toronto.
It is alleged that:
– the owner and an employee of Healthy Fit Incorporated operated a business that provided medical products and services in Mississauga and Toronto between November 30, 2011 and July 21, 2015
– they counselled and conspired with numerous TTC employees who submitted more than $5 million in claims to the insurance provider, Manulife
– they provided some or no products that were invoiced and split the insurance payments with the customer
It is further alleged that the owner defrauded the City of Toronto in a similar manner. This allegedly involved several City of Toronto employees submitting approximately $96,000 in claims to Manulife. These claims were also split between City employees and accused.
The following charges have been laid in relation to this case:
Adam Smith, 46, of Mississauga, owner of Healthy Fit Incorporated:
1. Two counts of Fraud Over $5,000
2. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Fraud Over $5,000
3. Laundering Proceeds of Crime
Savath Nget, 32, of Toronto, employee of Healthy Fit Incorporated:
1. Fraud Over $5,000
2. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Fraud Over $5,000
These charges are before the courts at Old City Hall.
The following TTC employees all face one count of Fraud Over $5,000:

3. Ahmed Kabba, 58, of Ajax
4. Alfred Metri, 51, of Pickering
5. Corey Newell, 48, of Toronto
6. Glenn Saunders, 51, of Stouffville
7. Joao Sousa, 45, of Bradford
8. Sohan Virk, 55, of Caledon
9. Novella Williams, 32, of Toronto
10. Ishmael Yankson, 40, of Brampton
They appeared at Old City Hall Court, room 111, during the week of July 10, 2017.
