Calls for Service
Kingston Police had 408 calls for service over the long weekend of August 4 to 7, 2017. Of these, 256 calls occurred in the city central area, 71 in the west end, 22 in the east end, and 8 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

There were 17 individuals arrested over the long weekend of August 4 to 7, 2017 including 15 men and 2 women, between 24 and 59 years of age, for the following: utter threats to cause bodily harm, harassment by threatening conduct, assault, theft under $5000, robbery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, mischief, harassment by repeated communication, and breach probation. 5 persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Man Charged after Failed Robbery in Downtown Area

A 24-year-old local man is facing several charges after a failed robbery attempt downtown.
On August 5, 2017 at approximately 7:15 p.m. the suspect approached the victim on Princess Street near Bagot Street. The suspect displayed a knife at his waist and told the victim he was being robbed. The victim refused to cooperate and walked away, due to a large number of pedestrians in the area the suspect did not attempt any further action and left on foot.
At approximately 11:50 a.m. officers observed a man matching the description of the suspect in the downtown area. The man was arrested and during a search, officers found a large 12” kitchen knife and a small quantity of suspected marijuana.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and 6 counts of breach probation.
Man Arrested After Attacking Former Friend

A 41-year-old local man has been arrested after attacking a former friend and fellow tenant.
On August 5, 2017 at approximately 9:00 p.m. the accused attended the victim’s residence. The accused came in yelling at the victim before shoving him and leaving. A short time later the accused returned and this time he grabbed the victim by the throat and threatened to kill him. The accused attacked the victim over allegations he was bothering a third tenant, a woman known to both men.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with assault and utter threats to cause death.
Shoplifter Caught with Suitcase full of Stolen Goods

A 29-year-old local woman was arrested for shoplifting after attempting to steal a suitcase full of merchandise.
On August 6, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the accused attended a store on Midland Avenue. The accused selected a suitcase and then filled it with over 60 items of merchandise valued at close to $800. The accused then walked out of the store with the full suitcase, failing to pay for anything.
The accused was stopped by store security and police were called.
The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with theft under $5000 and breach probation.
Man Harasses Hotel Staff in Early Morning Hours

A 33-year-old local man was arrested after ignoring police warning and returning to a hotel to harass staff members.
On August 7, 2017 at approximately 2:00 a.m. the accused entered the front lobby of a hotel on Princess Street. A staff member was cleaning the ladies washroom when the accused entered and stood silently staring at her. The staff member asked if he knew it was the ladies washroom, he replied he did and continued to stand their staring at her. The staff member exited the bathroom and reported the incident to the front desk at which time the accused came over and asked for a room. Due to his behavior the accused was denied a room, but rather than leaving he continued to lurk around inside the hotel.
Police attended, removed the accused and trespassed him from the property. The accused left on foot, but approximately ½ hour later he returned to the hotel. Officers were called back and found the accused sitting in the lobby. The accused was arrested for trespassing at which time staff members agreed to provide statements regarding his earlier threatening behavior.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with harassment by threatening conduct, and 3 counts of breach probation.
