Credit Card Gas Scam Sees 2 Charged in Cornwall #CCPS #CPS 050919

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Alfred Meloche, 49, Kahnawake, QC was arrested on May 8th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on August 3rd, 2004 for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On May 8th, 2019, he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

FRAUD UNDER $5000, UNLAWFUL USE OF CREDIT CARD, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Mathieu Lamarche, 36, and Frederico Belmonte, 48, both of Cornwall, were arrested on May 8th, 2019 and each charged with two counts of fraud under $5000, as well as two counts of unlawful use of credit card. Mathieu Lamarche was also charged with two counts of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on April 7th, 2018, both men attended two local gas bars and approached customers, offering to use a credit card that did not belong to them to pay for their gas, in exchange for a lesser quantity of cash from the customer in return. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On May 8th, 2019, a member of the Cornwall Police Service attended the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre as both men were in custody. Both men were charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
