Cornwall ON – Would you like the Poutine Eating Champion of the World. A sanctioned Poutine eating contest is being held in Toronto as opposed to Quebec, the home of Poutine.
Quebec government rules and regulations on entering contests and sweepstakes are stringent and demanding, including long preparation times and fees for approval: for that reason, many national contests simply exlude Quebec.
A full complement of contestants is 15. Twelve spots are reserved for the so-called eating professionals, who have signed up through the IFCE website. That leaves space for three Canadian amateurs, who will be chosen in a contest run by Smoke’s Poutinerie. They enter at www.smokespoutinerie.com, where they’re asked to submit to Smoke’s Facebook page or Twitter account their best “I once ate” or “I love poutine so much that … ” story.
And I thought it was only Doctors that got zooted around by odd Quebec laws. This contest should be held in Montreal;not Toronto. It’s just not Canadian!
