Good luck Jamie. You are an honourable man.

  2. Stan   July 6, 2010 at 12:47 PM

Fantastic decision! Congratulations! You have my vote Jamie.

Thanks everyone for posting and the emails and phone calls. They’ll be an official press release and we’re going to have a party and celebrate soon!

  4. Tammy A. Hart says:   July 6, 2010 at 3:20 PM

Yes, Jamie congratulations as well. Am I a welcome guest to your party? I hope you know, I am not a “greenie” type supporter, but I do know you are a nice kinda guy.

  5. admin   July 6, 2010 at 3:22 PM

Tammy I think the doors need to be open by all parties. Good conversation and the occasional brawl never hurt anyone 🙂 Is that a two way invite? We’ll have to clarify what it means to be Green. It’s not quite what a lot of people think and that’s one of the challenges I’m going to face in this next election in this riding.

  6. Tammy A. Hart says:   July 6, 2010 at 3:28 PM

Jamie, I still haven’t made any official announcement, I am slow on the up start …people are busy, and there isn’t alot of appetite for politics right now. But if and when, you will definitely be welcomed.
Actually, I will be very interested in what you have to say, I just pray to God your not radical.

  7. Cornwall Harry   July 6, 2010 at 3:30 PM

If you stop eating smoked meat, chopped liver and french fries…..then you’ll turn green!

  8. admin   July 6, 2010 at 5:44 PM

    Hi Tammy,

My motto is Evolution, not Revolution. What we have is terrific. We just need society to be more accountable. We need to spend the public’s money better, and keep the government’s hands out of our pockets and working harder.

Is that too radical for you?

  9. Tammy A. Hart says:   July 6, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Sounds very good! But easy to say…

  10. Grimalot   July 6, 2010 at 7:39 PM

I’d trust Jamie above all the other candidates at this time! Kudos to you Jamie. You have my vote as well. Sorry I haven’t been on much as of late, was taking a little break from all the bruhahah for a while.. And its just too friggin hot out for me to be concentrating much online too..

Tammy, please clarify that “greenie” comment?

  11. PJR   July 6, 2010 at 8:50 PM

All the best, Jamie. You’re a decent man at a time when decency is in very short supply and needed more than ever.

  12. smee   July 6, 2010 at 9:08 PM

How do you intend to promote a more accountable society?

  13. Tammy A. Hart says:   July 6, 2010 at 9:50 PM

I guess Grimalot I get sick of extremists who try to set their own agenda, the same people who pester the hell out of politicians to make the world a “perfect environment”. Politicians in general tell these “greenies” what they want to hear and do exactly the opposite all the while taxing us and regulating us to death. ie. Walkerton, Bill 43, the Clean water act. The Walkerton disaster was because two drunks who falsified reports. Out of all that came Bill 43, that does little to clean up cities and towns sewer problems dumping into the lakes YET infringes on the farmers ability to own, manage and maintain their own property, something they’ve been successfully doing for years and now regulated to death. The Water Source Protection Act another million dollar, bureaucratic, costly agency. Most the water issues in Municipalities could easily have been resolved on an individual basis, each using their own ingenuity to resolve problems. Now we have expensive waste water facilities that in many cases are too expensive to run and will continue to rise in costs. South Stormont for example is half a million dollars for six people to run a year.
Conservation Authorities another expensive, government “do gooder” agency, that in my opinion could be much more effective with half the people and and half the money. These agencies are unaccountable to the public. Therefore they continue to create make work projects to employ more people. Not to mention job security and high wages these guys get. In my opinion, alot of the programs they run are redundant and ineffective and costly. Similarly with most of all the other arms length government agencies out there. Ontario has way too much government, and I maintain that most gov’t agencies are ineffective, and destructive to society in general ie. Ontario Human Rights Commission. Mean while everyone keeps voting Dalton McGuinty because hes going to save us all. I could go on… the Green Energy Act, Waste management issues, why arent we incinerating? and so on. I hope I have explained myself somewhat.

Congrats…..however our area needs less politicians and more critical thinking people… who can cut through the policies and crap and come up with real solutions.

  15. JasonH   July 6, 2010 at 10:28 PM

EVOLUTION… not REVOLUTION…. you might want to keep with your motto… evolve from this pathetic system of politics

  16. admin   July 7, 2010 at 5:28 AM

smee I promised not to turn The Cornwall Free News into my personal election site. My candidacy site will be up shortly, and you can try and entrap me and trick me up there 🙂

Short answer so you don’t feel cheated or come back posting that I didn’t answer your question is you don’t promote a more accountable society; you create a more accountable society one issue at a time.

  17. willie191   July 7, 2010 at 8:22 AM

smee. you seem to have a hate on for Admin. The guy is just trying to earn a living while bringing a forum to those who wish to speak out.

  18. smee   July 7, 2010 at 9:01 AM

I look forward to your election campaign site being open.

  19. smee   July 7, 2010 at 9:16 AM

    willie191

I have no doubt Jamie is a great person and wish him all the luck in his endeavours.

It is not a hate for the person but a dislike for the lack of insight and experience to much of the reality of what is written. I do not have all the answers but the life exeperince allows me to comment in ways most peole would not understand and well don’t agree with locally. You must step back from the feelings my posts stir and actually process the context.

As for the forum you speak of it is no different then the freeholder and other media sites. If you are not on board you are silenced.

  20. smee   July 7, 2010 at 9:17 AM

ooo poor spelling on that last post sorry bout that

  21. Grimalot   July 7, 2010 at 9:18 AM

Yeah that explains it a bit better. Seeing as the Green party supports the legalization of Marijuana, I just think it important to expand on “greenie” statements like that, so as to avoid painting Jamie in a light he may not wish to be painted in.

  22. admin   July 7, 2010 at 9:22 AM

“If you are not on board you are silenced.”

Now smee if that were true do you really think you would’ve been able to post that? We have criteria for posting. Agreeing with anyone isn’t part of that criteria.

And yes, there are different rules when you sign your name, or if you’re an anonymous troll.

  23. marc   July 7, 2010 at 10:29 AM

Jamie,Jamie, You and your paper have did an excellent job knocking down the politicians for the last little while. Now you want to be a politician?Well anyways good luck

  24. admin   July 7, 2010 at 10:50 AM

Now marc where do you see us knocking a lot of politicians? I disagree with Mr. Harper. I post that. It’s not a knock and I give Mr. Lauzon and Mr. Harper an open door to rebut any statement which is far more than they give those that oppose them.

What I cherish about this newspaper is that we allow diversity. We allow just about any opinion that isn’t abusive or intolerant. It’s what the Free in Cornwall Free News stands for.

  25. Cornwall Harry   July 7, 2010 at 3:35 PM

    JAMIE, JAMIE, JAMIE, JAMIE, JAMIE

  26. smee   July 7, 2010 at 9:04 PM

EVOLUTION… not REVOLUTION…. you might want to keep with your motto… evolve from this pathetic system of politics,
Jason, is that not a contradiction of your statement
“however our area needs less politicians and more critical thinking people… who can cut through the policies and crap and come up with real solutions.”
Jason, can you show us where that theory has ever occured, even Darwin would disagree.

    That is critical thinking

I am proud of our Prime Minister Stephen Harper, he made a wise and respectable choice for Canada by choosing David Johnston as our New Governor General. Speaks volumes for Harper.
    Your my hero.

  28. Stan   July 8, 2010 at 5:42 PM

Thats true Tammy. I’m proud of Stephen Harper that he chose David Johnston, he will make an excellent Governor General. I heard it was a close decision, he was going to pick Jamie but changed his mind at the last minute as David has an infinite knowledge of parliamentary law especially the part about proroguing parliament.
