Is the Price Right for Montreal? Habs Goalie resigns for two more years – Cornwall Ontario – September 3, 2010

Cornwall ON – Carey Price has signed up for two more years with Montreal.   It’s an interesting deal.    The pressure will be on Pierre Gauthier who may be voted worst GM in the NHL before the season starts having traded away play off hero Jaroslav Halak without receiving a known quantity back, and now signing the enigmatic Price who doesn’t seem to get the best performance from his team mates.

Now in a cap world which essentially imitates Rotisserie Baseball in structure the contract a player has dictates their asset value.   Scott Gomez at 3.5M is worth a lot more than at 7.5M.

If Carey comes out and has a strong season where does that leave Montreal?   If he doesn’t come out of the shoots strong where are the Habs then?  Alex Auld sure isn’t the hero and the Habs dumped Cedric Desjardins.

It’s not a great market for goalies this year.   Carey’s agent won in this deal.  Pierre Gauthier blinked.   Price’s trade value with this contract isn’t terribly great.    His value would actually have been better if he was traded prior to the signing.

What I do know is that this is our first hockey story of the 2010-2011 season.   I hope I don’t spend that much time writing about Mr. Price; but sadly I think there’ll be a lot to write about.
