I always thought, perhaps mistakenly, that a person has to quit working for the government (Federal, Provincial or Municipal) if they want to run as a candidate in a Federal Election. Right or Wrong?

Well, the natural thing is to quit one’s current position if one thinks one can win the new one. And of course, the reverse is true. Why quit one position only to fail at being elected to another?
