The Cornwall Free News Celebrates our 4,000 Story – Still Number one in Cornwall, and Dirty Town Under a Crooked Bridge – June 18, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – We’ve been busy since February of 2009!    We just celebrated our 4,000 story!    Along with your over 11,000 comments that’s a very busy little online newspaper!    Thanks to all of our sponsors for helping to make it happen, and of course you, our amazing viewers without who we could never survive!

I’d love to thank each of you personally, but there are over 50,000 of you now that visit The Cornwall Free News montlhy!   Your viewership is what powers us.   Please keep emailing us your comments and suggestions to info@cornwallfreenews.com

We’re still number one in our market, but it’s starting to crowd as there are few other online upstarts recently.    What many people don’t understand is that many sites use aggregation; essentially links to stories from other news sites instead of creating their own content.   Some of the bigger news sites in our area are part of chains and their “local” offerings are filled with sydicated material.

So if you’re a business or service considering where to put your marketing dollars it’s something you might want to consider when making that all important choice.

Here are some numbers and comments courtesy of Alexa.com.

We are still the number one Canadian ranked news site in the Cornwall area at 2,686.   Our World wide rank is 157,578.

Number two and improving this sampling is the Standard Free Holder with rankings of 5,312 in Canada and 204,841 world wide.

There are 204,840 sites with a better three-month global Alexa traffic rank than Standard-freeholder.com, and the site has attained a traffic rank of 5,312 among users in Canada, where approximately 68% of its audience is located. This site’s content places it in the “Ontario” category of websites. Standard-freeholder.com has been online for more than ten years. It is based in Canada

Number three is thecornwalldaily.com which tries to feel like a newspaper and is the offering of Corus Radio here in Cornwall.

They’re ranked 8,204 in Canada and 393,758 world wide.

There are 393,757 sites with a better three-month global Alexa traffic rank than Thecornwalldaily.com. The time spent in a typical visit to the site is approximately three minutes, with 47 seconds spent on each pageview. Visitors to the site view an average of 3.4 unique pages per day. This site has a relatively good traffic rank in the city of Cornwall (#24). The fraction of visits to Thecornwalldaily.com referred by search engines is approximately 6%.

Alexa only mentions The Cornwall Free News (ranked 9 in Cornwall and thecornwalldaily ranked 24 in Cornwall) with enough traffic to rank in the city of Cornwall itself.

And trailing the pack although improving is The Seawaynews which has improved to: 17,143 in Canada and 833,973 world wide.

There are 833,972 sites with a better three-month global Alexa traffic rank than Cornwallseawaynews.com. This site has been online since 1999. The site is located in Canada, and the time spent in a typical visit to Cornwallseawaynews.com is about three minutes, with 51 seconds spent on each pageview. The site belongs to the “Cornwall” category.

What’s really interesting is that a large number of visitors to the Seaway News site seem to be looking for moi  via online search?

A shout out to our top ten cities!   Ottawa, Cornwall, Toronto, Montreal, Kingston, Edmonton, Calgary, Brockville, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

Our biggest challenge coming up is how to figure out how to communicate better with advertising agencies from Toronto.   The one for the Province complained that our advertisers were Cornwall based which we thought was very prejudiced as there are some great advertisers from this city.

But those are the challenges for small independent businesses!

We have some new columns starting soon as well as the return of Seawayradio.com as we will be ending our summer hiatus in time for Labour Day, but more of that later.

As well the not so secret secret will be premiered shortly.      I’ve been working on my second novel; Dirty Town Under a Crooked Bridge which will be available via Kindle download on Amazon.com and other fine book selling sites.   We will be having some sneak peeks here on The Cornwall Free News starting in August as well as a contest to win a Kindle!

If you have a subject you’re passionate about email us at info@cornwallfreenews.com and we can help you have a platform to share with our amazing viewers!

We may be from Cornwall Ontario, but we are rapidly becoming Canada’s favorite place for News, Views, and Reviews, 24/7!
