CFN – What a dark dark night for Cornwall Ontario. Not only did our mayor not come clean with his alleged conflict of interest, but he invoked an obscure section of the municipal act to have me removed from the council chamber last night.
There was a peaceful protest last night prior to council. 
The Standard Freeholder, Seaway News, and Corus Radio will not be reporting about the protest and protesters. They will not be reporting about Councilor Syd Gardiner ripping up the protesters signs that were politely left outside of the chamber either even though Syd was charged by police. As of 7:18 AM there’s nothing about this event in the Free Holder or Corus radio.
As a matter of fact they probably won’t be writing about the mayor hitting the panic button and seven police officers entering the chamber and removing yours truly for wearing a t shirt with the milk carton image above, a gift from one of our sponsors.

Cornwall police were called to city hall Monday night to remove a man from the council chambers after he refused to change his t-shirt.
The man, who owns a website in Cornwall that often posts items related to community events, was asked by Mayor Bob Kilger to change his t-shirt which contained what the mayor felt was an offensive remark.
When the man refused, Kilger contacted city police via an emergency button he has under his desk.
Maybe that’s why the public isn’t aware of so much of what happens in Cornwall or why CFN has so many more viewers than the other local media.
To portray the editor of the largest media in a city of 46,000 people as “a man”? Who owns a website? CFN is in the top 5 Independently owned Online Newspapers in all of Canada. Isn’t that kind of dropping the ball? Tod also dropped a few f bombs on yours truly before the meeting and yes, I dropped a few back.
Why do the local media, or at least people who are supposed to be media ignoring a protest in front of City Hall? Are Cheryl Brink from the Free Holder, Amanda Robinson from Corus, and the above Tod there really to cover Pigeon and Goose issues? Is this what journalism has come to?
The big issue of course was not covered. The mayor did not declare his conflict of interest. Council snuck whatever happened during their in camera meetings through at the end of last night’s meeting. The public will not most likely ever know what occurred unless someone comes up with a lot of legal cash or one of the councilors leaks it.
I think Mayor Kilger & council owe the people of Cornwall a huge apology. I think he and council owe myself and CFN a huge apology. I will be back at the next meeting wearing my t shirt again. I have a hunch that a few more people will as well. Are you going to have the police remove everyone?
I did not address the mayor last night. I did not disturb Council. I responded to him speaking out to me by name with his order to remove or cover my t shirt.
Sorry Bob. We live in Canada. There was no nudity on my shirt. There was no foul language. There was a picture of a corrupt politician on a milk container. IF you were so offended by that shirt you should resign sir. How much did the tax payers of Cornwall pay for 7 police officers to come to your council chamber.
The only independent journalist was kept from covering your meeting. That’s the real crime. I was forced out of council by police. I was kept outside of the chamber by police, and at the very end, when I said I’d agree to turn the shirt inside out the police refused to let me back in the chamber citing section 241.2 of the Municipal act “The head of council or other presiding officer may expel any person for improper conduct at a meeting.”
The only person that should have been expelled from council last night was Mayor Bob Kilger.
Now the question is what will happen next….and when will Bob Kilger come clean with the people of Cornwall and declare his conflict of interest.
The utter irony of the evening is that Mayor Kilger, who sits on the Benson University committee requesting cold hard cash from Cornwall, participated again in the discussion at council; again violating the spirit of Conflict of Interest.

Mayor Kilger motioned for COGECO to turn off the recording last night so the citizens of Cornwall could not witness his horrible act of BULLYING. Yes, I said BULLYING. He controls the media in this town and it is shameful. When almost a dozen protesters with signs are peaceful demonstrating and the media, all except FREENEWS ignores us, well there is a HUGE issue. A huge issue of corruption and cover-up going on in this town!!!
To all the councillor, especially Andre and Maurice who are the only 2 that have integrity and accountability to the public, I urge you to speak up against what happened! The fact that peaceful protesters left their signs in the hallway and did not bring them into council chambers(following the rules) and COUNCIL witnessed Syd Gardner destroy them in the doorway of chambers in a fit of rage is appauling!!!!!! Not one person spoke up against his actions which were AGAINST THE LAW. This type of behaviour goes on and on and on!!! What if one of the citizens destroyed his sign when he was running for counicl….tell us what would happen then? A formal complaint with the police has been carried out and we will make sure this is followed through on or it will go higher up!
What happened to freedom of speech? How can citizens be thrown out and their signs destroyed for no legal reason?!?!
Cornwall has never seen as much corruption as is has with Kilger at the wheel.

I am not an advocate of provocation tactics. With almost certainty this course of action invites backlash.
I personally would like see all concerned move forward refusing to get caught up in the drama of the event.
Mayor Bob Kilger only appeared to be a rather small thin skinned individual prone to being over dramatically sensitive and Councilor Syd Gardiner lead the way for some to say that he was cut from the same bolt of cloth.
Enough about the incident itself.
Having said that however, I would be curious to know which of the other attending councilors would agree that invoking section 241.2 of the Municipal Act was a necessary and prudent course of action.
I feel that the situation in its entirety to have been somewhat juvenile and it served only to bring about further embarrassment to our community at large. Enough said.
Even the cops were dumbfounded and made to look stupid by this Mayor. Has anyone asked for Gardner to resign? and if not why? The Province does not allow bullying and there are laws to rid this in Canada, bad enough school kids put up with bullying but to have an elected official display such an act more so over signs of free speach is totally deserved of an arrest, charged and forced to resign from council ASAP.

My husband calls Ottawa “a big sized Cornwall” because of corruption but what I see in Cornwall I am wondering which one is the most corrupt.
It must be really scary to have a small business in Cornwall. You have to use the approved advertisers and approved suppliers or suffer the consequences. These consequences can be anything from being shunned by the cliques and cronies to having licenses and permits deferred and possibly even denied. It’s also sad that the Chamber of Commerce condones and possibly even promotes these punitive actions. What is the point of owning a business if your freedom of choice is taken away from you? Your business’s success or failure is no longer in your own hands.

Mind you I did march with the labour unions here in Cornwall to protest the contracts for the CCH but I regret that now considering the hypocrisy of the Labour leader/city councilor who condones selling Cornwall as a source of cheap non-union labour.

In a democracy, there is no accountability of government without information on what our government levels are doing. Freedom of the press to provide and share that information is important for all of us towards our own freedoms of expression, thought and of course opinions.
I don’t see how a Mayor during a council meeting can demand someone to remove clothing to reenter a public meeting. The shirt is not offensive under any hate laws I imagine.
Eric what really has been scary was the Free Holder, Seaway News, and Corus Radio’s reaction to the protest and what happened. The Seaway News portrayed me as “a man, a man who has a website” Corus mocked me this morning as a fat guy that breast feeds off of himself, and the Freeholder ran no story. Cogeco was off during the issue.
The mayor and city literally seem to have control over most of the media in the city. That’s scary and so far larger media seem reluctant to run this story.
The “press” where like a bunch of zombies, walking by the protesters with no response or interest. Almost as if under a Kilger spell. Not sure how he does it, but I guess bullying is an effective measure of control in this city!

Reg Coffey you said it best about running a business in Cornwall and we were told that back in the 90’s era by a neighbor. This man and his wife spoke about the things that go on in Cornwall and he told us that making a business in Cornwall was next to impossible and told us about Kaneb denying a General Motors plant to come to Cornwall and that they settled in Massena and all kinds of things that you mentioned and more. Being a business man you sure do know what goes on. Having a business under Kilger is even worse to comprehend. No wonder Cornwall’s population has not changed since 1956 like that very nice gentleman Pat Finnerty said – he told the truth.

Cornwall will never ever change as long as the same people are there with the same generations of their offspring – Cornwall is literally cooked. Thank the Good Lord that I was able to sell my house in good time and now I am free. That was quite some time ago and so glad to be free.

Jamie Cornwall will never change believe me. When we decided to leave we knew that Cornwall had no future. I had so many friends who told me the very same thing. One of the people who did everything to convince me to leave is now in Calgary and used to be here in Ottawa. Many many people told me as well as to my husband saying to us “pick yourselves up and leave and don’t bury yourselves here” and that was from a cousin of one of my friends and they left as well for Toronto.
We could never go back down to Cornwall ever again – it is a scream of laughter and tears for all the corruption down there. It isn’t anything new but it gets worse all the time. Yes the people who live there are bullied and some are even “railroaded” out of town. Some people left with their lives threatened. That isn’t a civilized place to live that is for sure. Many are literally stuck down there until they die because they know of no where else except Cornwall.
It’s time for Mr. Kilger to resign. How can anyone trust this man as the mayor of Cornwall with all the covered ups he’s done with Project Truth. If you can’t take the heat for what you’ve caused, then leave.

My God what a waste of taxpayers money and honestly Jamie and folks I can’t stop laughing – the “legend of sleepy hollow” is waking up to the corruption down there.
Yesterday Jamie I stayed up till almost 1:30 a.m. and I was still awake afterwards. I went on youtube.com to try and look for the fiasco with Kilger and the BARNEY FIFE POLICE DEPARTMENT which cost the taxpayers a lot of money to send those idiots out for one harmless and wonderful man like you Jamie.
I went on the article about the hospital and I had a good laugh at the one who wanted to make a medical school out of the General Hospital for Geriatric patients and that would cost a great deal more money than restoring the old hospital for seniors who can no longer care for themselves and students have one thing in mind is to get the H— out of Cornwall and never return so that would be a huge loss. Medicine of all sorts doesn’t work that way.
Jamie those who wanted that boondoggle of an albatross of that “tax mahal” that they call a Benson Centre should buy it from the city and not have the taxpayers on the hook for any of this nonsense. A town that is going to be a geriatric town sure isn’t going to go on skates and have people from out of town going on that highly polluted dump to skate nor a professional team. A 3 pad arena is utterly insane. I still haven’t stopped laughing and I wonder if someone spiked my Tylenol. LOL LOL.
There is a very old nurses residence attached to the hospital and it must have been built before the Great Depression of the 30’s era and it is delapidated and if an earthquake happened it would tumble down in pieces since it would not be able to withstand anything. That has to come out and that takes big money. The back part of the General (part of it) was built in the 50’s era and held patients who had polio. There used to be an old front part of the hospital that had a fish pond and very old rooms and that was knocked down and rebuilt I guess in the 70’s era. That hospital can be renovated into a place for the elderly but it takes big bucks and I wouldn’t pay more than 5 million for it because it is going to take a lot of work. You have to look at those expenses and knock them off the sale price.
I haven’t seen that Adams woman and I have been off and out of touch with what is going on down in Cornwall but people just need ordinary common sense to figure out what is really needed and the cost instead of a person with degrees in finance or accounting who could tell me a lot less than what I already know. LOL LOL. What a waste.
I was thinking that maybe a fundraser type of a thing to try and raise money for this institution. The way the sale is going is that it would be made as a private institution that most people cannot afford or “Camptown Races Here We Come Doo Da Doo Da Kilger” would turn into another hockey rink so be on the look out for another boondoggle mess of no return. I have produced more laugh lines on me than a wrinked up elephant. LOL LOL. ROLF!
Kilger and the rest of his corrupt clique has to go and the sooner the better. This is a real shame to have such a mayor. Martelle made the headlines of Time magazine back in his day but this boondoggle shame of Kilger, Healy, Willie Wise and the clique really put Cornwall under.
Just reading some of these comments. Interesting conversation, but I was really upset by “Jules” talking about bullying, and then goes on to bully another commenter who had a few spelling errors. Not a nice thing to do “Jules”, especially today – a day we are fighting against people who bully.

We have lost our freedoms through socialism thereby collective rights takes precedence over individual rights .
We have seen this in Canada many times but particular in Quebec as bill 101 restricts freedom of expression .
Freedom of education is lost as well as the choice of the parent to have their child educated in the language of their choice does not exist there, the state dictates that.
Ontario 4 municipalities have legislation that forces the business owners to post their signs in designated languages and not of the language of their choice .
An french advocacy Judge Metivier stated it was alright to violate those business owners rights and the Charter Of Rights in the interest of bilingualism -welcome to socialism’s collective rights.
So people just when you think that you live in a free country remember its only as free as much as your willing to fight for it .
