Streetlight Pilot Project
As a pilot project, the Township of South Stormont has installed 5 Light Emitting Diode (LED) Streetlights at the intersection of Moulinette Road and Simcoe Street in Long Sault. These lights will be compared against the existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) streetlight fixtures in place throughout the Township.
The LED streetlight fixtures are estimated to reduce energy costs by approximately 50% and would reduce maintenance costs significantly. The new LED streetlights come with a 10 year warranty and have an expected life expectancy of 20 years on all components.
These are the first LED streetlights to be installed in the Township of South Stormont. If you live in the area of the streetlight, we want to hear from you! Please send an email to info@southstormont.ca or visit our facebook page to obtain a copy of a short survey, your opinion is important to us!
ADOPT A ROAD PROGRAM
Spring has sprung and it is time to think about spring clean up throughout our community. Become involved and take part in the Township’s Adopt- A-Road Program.
The Adopt-A-Road Program is a public service program for volunteers to enhance local litter collection activities. Many areas throughout the Province have endorsed a similar program. This program is a way for environmentally conscious groups to contribute to a cleaner road system by picking up litter with the Township’s assistance. Please contact the Township office at 613-534-8889 to find out more!
BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT
Dogs on leashes
A friendly reminder to all dog owners/walkers. Pursuant to By-law No. 2004-52 please ensure that your dog is leashed at all times when outdoors; this makes a safe environment for your dog, the owner(s) and the public.
In addition, please help to keep our community clean and be reminded, if you

FIRE DEPARTMENT
BE PROACTIVE, HELP US TO HELP YOU
The winter months take their toll on civic signage, or what emergency services commonly refers to as “911 signage”. The motto “hard to find hard to help” is a daily reminder that seconds count when fire, police or paramedic assistance is required for you or a loved one. Take a moment when you are arriving home, especially after dark, and ensure your civic address is plainly visible from both directions. Remember the pizza delivery person has the time and light vehicle to back up or turn around easily while an ambulance or a much larger 15 ton fire truck wastes precious time accessing your property when your signage is not visible.
