DOMESTIC
Cornwall, ON – A 21 year old Cornwall male was arrested on November 5, 2013. It is alleged that he and his 22 year common-law girlfriend engaged in a verbal argument about marihuana he had in his possession. The argument escalated and the female asked the male to leave. The male did not comply. The female attempted to call police. The male took the phone from her and threw it to the ground, causing damage to the phone. The male approached the female and pushed her. She did not suffer any injuries. Police were contacted and an investigation was conducted. The male was charged with Assault, Mishief Under $5000, and Drug Possession. He was held for a Bail Hearing on November 6, 2013. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
WARRANT
Cornwall, ON – Evan Wright, age 27, of Kirkland, Quebec, was arrested on November 5, 2013. He was previously arrested for a residential Robbery with a firearm in Cornwall on March 26, 2009. He was released on a Recognizance Order on September 4, 2009. He failed to attend court on January 14, 2010 and a Bench Warrant was issued for his arrest. On November 5, 2013, the Cornwall Police were notified that he was in custody in another city and attended to execute the warrant. He is charged with Failing to Attend Court in addition to his previous charge. He was held for a Bail Hearing later the same day.
BREACH
Cornwall, ON – Carl Beckstead, age 62, of Cornwall, was arrested on November 5, 2013. He is bound by a Recognizance Order with the relevant condition to not be outside of his residence when intoxicated or when having consumed alcohol in the previous 12 hours. Police found him away from his residence, outdoors in the east end of Cornwall, under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with Breach of Recognizance. He was held for a Bail Hearing on November 6, 2013.

HUNTING SAFETY A MUST
(SMITHS FALLS, ON) – the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP), East Region, are reminding hunters that gun safety is a must.
On Monday, November 4, 2013, the OPP in East Region investigated three accidental shootings.
1. The first occurred at 8:40am on Cleveland Road, Tudor and Cashel Township involving a 42-year-old male.
2. The second on Maple Road, Odessa involving a 55-year-old male.
3. The third at 6:45pm, on Weedmark Road, Montague involving a 59-year-old male.

Off-duty Ottawa Police Officer charged with Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol

(Ottawa)— On November 2, 2013, the Ottawa Police Service responded to a call at approx. 6:00am about a driver possibly driving while under the influence of alcohol. Officers located the vehicle at Terry Fox Drive and Hazeldean Road and arrested the male driver.
Off-duty Constable Ahmad Bayaa of the Ottawa Police Service was charged with Operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol/100ml of blood, section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
Constable Bayaa was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ottawa Court on November 18, 2013.
He is currently assigned to administrative duties. The Ottawa Police Service Professional Standards Section has begun an investigation into this matter.
“This matter is before the courts and it is important that we respect due process,” said Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau. “The Ottawa Police Service expects the conduct of all officers to be of the highest standard and reflective of the values of our community.”

(Ottawa)—Today, the Ottawa Police Service and its GLBT Liaison Committee is pleased to be participating in a joint media launch with other Ontario Police Services to introduce the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police’s (OACP) Best Practices in Policing and LGBTQ Communities in Ontariodocument. This document will prove to be a valuable resource for all Ontario Police Services.
“For over 20 years the Ottawa Police Service has worked closely with Ottawa’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) communities to develop strong relationships and foster trust,” noted Ottawa Police Inspector Joan McKenna, Police Co-Chair for the Ottawa Police Liaison Committee for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Trans (GLBT) communities.
In 1991 we introduced the Ottawa Police Liaison Committee for the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Trans (GLBT) communities. At the time it was the first of its kind in Canada.
The Ottawa Police would like to thank the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and its Diversity Committee for creating this document and the many participating Ontario Police Services, LGBTQ police personnel, and LGBTQ community organizations that assisted in its development, including the members of our own GLBT Liaison Committee who provided their input.
Update : Ottawa Police investigating a fatal collision on Woodroffe Avenue

(Ottawa)—This evening, the Ottawa Police Collision Investigation Section charged Suranjan ARASARATNAM, 28 years old, of Ottawa in relation to the fatal collision on May 26th. He is charged with:
- Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Sec 220(b) CC
- Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm, Sec 221 CC
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Causing Death, Sec 249(4) CC
- Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Sec 249(3) CC
He was released on a promise to appear; and is scheduled to appear in court on December 16, 2013.
The male victim has been identified as Kouchi Matsumoto, 70 years old. His name is being released publicly with permission from his family.
