ASSAULT, POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
Cornwall, ON – A 34-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on June 6th, 2014 and charged with assault and possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that on June 6th, 2014 during an argument with his 25-year-old girlfriend while at a Montreal Road address the man grabbed her by the face. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody and during this time was found to be in possession of what is believed to be a quantity of Marihuana. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.
WARRANT
Cornwall, ON – Shaine Robertson, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on June 7th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on May 5th, 2014 the man failed to attend court for breach related charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On June7th, 2014 a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service spotted the man walking in the area of Second Street and Marlborough Street. The man was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.
ASSAULT, THREATS
Cornwall, On – Niko Charbonneau, 42 of Cornwall was arrested on June 8th, 2014 and charged with two counts of assault and two counts of threats. It is alleged that on June 7th, 2014 during an argument with a 20 and a 23-year-old woman the man pushed one and punched the other. The man then threatened to cut them. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they took the man into custody, charged him accordingly and held him for a bail hearing.
Cornwall, ON – A 33-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on June 9th, 2014 and charged with assault and threats. It is alleged that on June 9th, 2014 during an argument with his 30-year-old girlfriend the man struck the victim and threatened to kill her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the man was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it might identify the victim in the matter.

Cornwall, ON – Lisa Sauve, 26 of Cornwall was arrested on June 5th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that on June 2nd, 2014 the woman failed to attend court for a theft under charged and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On June 5th, 2014 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody and later released to appear in court on June 26th, 2014.
THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH
Cornwall, ON – Douglas Anderson, 30 of Cornwall was arrested on June 5th, 2014 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on May 11th, 2014 the man was responsible for removing property that did not belong to him from an Amelia Street yard. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On June 5th, 2014 the man was spotted in the area of First Street and Gloucester Street. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on June 26th, 2014.
MISCHIEF
Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 5th, 2014 and charged with mischief. It is alleged that on June 5th, 2014 during an argument with his mother the youth damaged dining room chairs and punctured holes in the walls. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
THEFT UNDER $5000, POSSESSION STOLEN PROPERTY
Cornwall, ON – Cynthia Lazarus, 27 of Cornwall was arrested on June 5th, 2014 and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property. It is alleged that on June 5th, 2014 the woman attended a Brookdale Avenue department store and removed property making no attempts to pay for them. The woman was stopped by the Loss Prevention Officer and police were contacted. During their investigation police learned that the woman was also in possession of property that had been removed from the store the prior day. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
BREACH
Cornwall, ON – Joshua Wynne, 33 of Cornwall was arrested on June 5th, 2014 and charged with breaching his recognizance. It is alleged that on June 5th, 2014 police attended a Montreal Road address in relation to a disturbance call. Once on scene they located the intoxicated man, took him into custody and charged him accordingly. He was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH
Cornwall, ON – Natasha Lalonde, 29 and James Stevenson, 47 both of Cornwall were arrested on June 5th, 2014 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of their probation orders for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that on June 5th, 2014 both persons entered a Brokkdale Avenue department store and removed a quantity of Gravol making no attempts to pay for the items. They were stopped by the Loss Prevention Officer and police were contacted. Both were taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date.
BREACH, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, ATTEMPT THEFT
Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman both of Cornwall were arrested on June 6th, 2014. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of June 6th, 2014 while the man was going through vehicles in the area of Anthony Street he struck a man who confronted him in the mouth with an object Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation they located the man in a back yard of an Anthony Street address and took him into custody. Police also located the woman who had been in the company of the man despite being on conditions not to have contact with him. She was taken into custody and charged with breaching an undertaking for communicating with the man, having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace. The man was charged with assault with a weapon, attempt theft and breach of three probation orders for failing to keep the peace. Their names were not released as the undertaking stems from a domestic incident and might identify the victim in the matter.
WARRANT, FAIL TO ATTEND
Cornwall, ON – An 18-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on June 4th, 2014 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged that the woman failed to attend court on May 27th, 2014 for an assault charge and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On June 4th, 2014 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and later released to appear in court on June 17th, 2014. Her name was not released as the original matter stems from a domestic incident and may identify the victim in the matter.

Cornwall, ON – A 50-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman both from Cornwall were arrested on June 5th, 2014. It is alleged that on June 5th, 2014 due to an argument the couple engaged in a struggle resulting in the man being cut on his finger by a knife. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation both were taken into custody and charged accordingly. The man was charged with assault while the woman was charged with assault and assault with a weapon. Both were transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing. Their names were not released as the matter stems from a domestic incident and may identify the victims in the matter.

(North Glengarry) – On June 4th, 2014 at approximately 9:00am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of an aggressive youth at a property on McNab Street in the Town of Alexandria, North Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated the male youth had caused damage within the building.
The 16year old from South Glengarry was arrested and is charged with;
– Mischief under $5000
He was released and scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on July 9th, 2014.
UTTER THREATS
(North Dundas) – On June 4th, 2014 at approximately 7:15pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of threats at a residence on Queen Street in the Village of Chesterville, North Dundas Township. Investigation indicated a verbal altercation between two males (34 and 38yrs) resulted in one threatening the others life.
The 34year old male from North Dundas was arrested and is charged with;
– Utter Threats
He was released and scheduled to appear in Morrisburg court on June 24th, 2014.
DRUGS SEIZED
(North Dundas) – On June 4th, 2014 at approximately 9:30pm, SD&G OPP officers had the occasion to check a suspicious vehicle at a property on Queen Street in the Village of Chesterville, North Dundas Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a small quantity of suspected marihuana from two occupants.
The driver, Josh FREAKE (19) and passenger Evan DURANT (20) both from North Dundas were arrested and each charged with;
– Possession of a Controlled Substance
They were released and scheduled to appear in Morrisburg court on July 8th, 2014.

Toronto Police Officer Charged in Relation to Custody Injury

Mississauga (6 June, 2014) — The Director of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Tony Loparco, has reasonable grounds to believe that an officer with the Toronto Police Service (TPS) committed a criminal offence in relation to the injury sustained by a 24-year-old man in a December 2013 incident. Director Loparco has caused a charge to be laid against the officer.
On December 12, 2013, the officer was among several TPS officers that took the man into custody in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Danforth Avenue.
As a result of the SIU investigation, TPS Constable Jason Nanton is facing one charge of Assault With a Weapon, contrary to s. 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The officer is compelled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at Old City Hall Courthouse, 60 Queen Street West, Toronto on July 17, 2014. The Justice Prosecutions branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General will have carriage of the prosecution.
As this matter is now before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the charged officer and the community, the SIU will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must
- consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation
- depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid
- report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
