CFN – Harper MP Guy Lauzon singled out a group of Cornwall Police that he stated were responsible for donating to the mystery man who sold his wedding ring, after 54 years of marriage, to allegedly pay for food for he and his wife who the story states is suffering from Alzheimer Disease.
He was speaking in Parliament on February 3, 2015 at 2PM.
The story received national attention even though no confirmation of the story or the parties involved has been released.
Here is Mr. Lauzon’s speech,
Mr. Speaker, I want to add my voice to those in Cornwall, in Canada, and
around the world praising the actions of some of Cornwall’s finest. They are
constables Kim Norman, Cody Casselman, Michel Riel, Rodney DeGray, Casey
MacGregor, James Lemoyre, sergeants Patrick Paquette, Dan Doyon, and George
Knezevic, as well as civilians Jody Sheard, Josee Lalonde, Claire Denis,
Jenna Legault, and Tasha Marcotte. These individuals demonstrated how generous the Cornwall community is by
raising money to help an elderly man buy back the wedding ring he had pawned
in order to buy groceries for himself and his wife. These compassionate,
caring people saw a problem and took it upon themselves to correct it. They
truly demonstrated what it means to be a Canadian. It is constituents like these who make me so proud to serve as the member
for Parliament for Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry.
The story came to light after a member of the Police Board who also sits as a City Councilor broke the story at a live council session during the budget hearings. Chief Dan Parkinson is asking for another yearly bump in the cost of services for our city.

that’s great for the couple……now if officers would help out pedaphilia victims as fast…that would have helped their city…..i’m glad the police are changing their bullying ways…..nice to see but still too late…..for many………
who never got help or let alone compassion for being assaulted by this city……Thanks m. lauzon……..
wonderful story, but his speech should have said: Mr Speaker, When is our goverment going to wake up to aid our impoverished people who have to take care of ill family members on little to no money who are keeping them at home to give them a quality of life that they deserve and not be stuffed in a home with mediocrer care. Why is it that families have to be put in a position that they have sell their belongings to make ends meat. so many communities are suffering due to lack of leadership and misappropriation of funds and those Canadian’s are the ones who pull to together to help because our leadership has failed them….. Cornwall is no exception our city has so many social issues we don”t know where to begin… It a good thing we can rely on our own citizens to help each other in times of need…

“Chief Dan Parkinson is asking for another yearly bump in the cost of services for our city.” How about a bump in the pensions of our older citizens? What will happen to them next month? Will they have to hock the ring again?
