Cornwall Ontario Police Blotter PROJECT HARDEN for MAY 29, 2015 #CCPS #OPP

ASSAULT, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, MISCHIEF, OVERCOME RESISTANCE, FORCIBLE CONFINEMENT, BREACH

 

Cornwall, ON – A 22-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 26th, 2015 and charged with the following:

  • Assault x 4
  • Assault with a Weapon x 4
  • Mischief
  • Overcoming Resistance
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Breach of Probation

It is alleged that between May 10th, 2015 and May 25th, 2015 the man assaulted his 22-year-old girlfriend by way of punching and slapping her. He also choked her on one occasion, broke a glass table on another occasion and threatened her with brass knuckles and a hammer. It is further alleged the man assaulted the woman with a knife and prevented her from leaving the residence. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation it was learned the man was breaching his recognizance for not residing at a specific address, failing to notify a change of address and breaching his curfew. He was also failing to keep the peace on a probation order. The man was located at a Walton Street address, taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ASSAULT, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – A 35-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on May 27th, 2015 and charged with assault and assault with a weapon. It is alleged that during an argument on May 27th, 2015 the woman punched and struck her 40-year-old boyfriend in the head with a phone. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During their investigation the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ARREST IN FRAUD INVESTIGATION

(South Glengarry) – Following an ongoing investigation into a report of several fraud incidents, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested an adult male while another is wanted.

On March 31, 2014 – SD&G OPP responded to a report that two (2) male suspects had attended a commercial location on William Street, South Glengarry Township (Flying J) and purchased several gifts card with fraudulent credit cards.

On May 25, 2015 Matthew PENNEY (31) of Hudson, Quebec was arrested and charged with;

– Possession of Forged Credit Card (4 counts)
– Utter Forged Document (2 counts)
– Fraud Under $5000
– Theft Under $5000
– Possess a Forged Driver’s Licence

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on June 10, 2015. The other male, a 30-year-old from Rigaud, Quebec is currently wanted on charges for similar offences.

The investigation continues.

 

BREACH OF CONDITIONS

(South Stormont) – On May 28, 2015 at approximately 10:25pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a residence on Chantine Drive, South Stormont Township following a report of an adult male in contravention of conditions (house arrest/remain with surety) imposed from a previous incident.

Aaron TAYLOR (26) of South Stormont Township was arrested and is charged with;

– Fail to Comply with Conditions of a Recognizance (2 counts)

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall today (May 29, 2015).

PROJECT HARDEN – SEARCH WARRANTS AND ARRESTS

 

(CORNWALL, ON) – Over the past 5 months the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) and its partners, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS), the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) with the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec, conducted a joint forces investigation into the trafficking of firearms and cocaine in eastern Ontario.

 

Project HARDEN focused on the illegal gun trade, particularly handguns. The origin of several of these seized firearms has been traced back to the United States. That investigation continues.

 

On Wednesday, May 27, 2015 the investigative team conducted six (6) search warrants in Cornwall, Ottawa, South Glengarry Township, Akwesasne and Longueuil, Quebec. The culmination of these agencies efforts resulted in the seizure of:

 

  • 6 prohibited hand guns
  • Silencer
  • 2 restricted handguns
  • AK-47 assault rifle
  • High capacity magazines
  • Ammunition
  • Cocaine
  • Marihuana

 

On May 27, 2015, 8 people were arrested facing 107 charges including:

9)      Knowingly Transfer Ammunition (CC)

10)  Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number (CC)

11)  Possess Proceeds Obtained by Crime over $5000 (CC)

13)  Possess Ammunition While Prohibited (CC)

Five (5) were held in custody to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Cornwall, today, May 28, 2015.  BILLARD, CARL and YASSINwere released on a Promise to Appear to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Cornwall, in June 2015.

BREACH OF CONDITIONS
(South Dundas) – On May 26, 2015 at approximately 2:32pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Broken Second Road, South Dundas Township. Investigation indicated an adult male was in contravention of previous release conditions.
The 41-year-old male from Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;
– Fail to Comply With Recognizance x 2
He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.

The names of the accused persons above are being withheld in order to protect the identity of victims.
