Cornwall Woman Receives Lifetime Ban on Owning Animals
Cornwall, ON (July 27, 2016) – On July 20, 2016, Jennifer Konink of Cornwall, ON. was found guilty of two counts of animal cruelty under the Ontario SPCA Act and received a lifetime ban on owning animals.
On August 5, 2015, the Ontario SPCA visited Konink’s residence after receiving a complaint about a cat that had been living on the roof of a porch for several days. Compliance Orders were issued to Konink to remove the cat from the roof.
Konink failed to comply and the cat, which was panting heavily and appeared to be having difficulty holding itself on the slate roof, was removed by the Ontario SPCA. An examination by a veterinarian revealed that the cat was severely dehydrated, extremely weak, flea infested and had broken teeth.
Konink was found guilty of:
- Failing to provide adequate and appropriate veterinary medical attention
- Failing to provide the care necessary for the general welfare of an animal
Konink was banned from owning animals and ordered to surrender a cat and rabbit in her care. She was also ordered to pay fines of $500 plus a restitution payment of $150.86, and is subject to a two-year probation.
“There is no excuse when it comes to failing to care for your animals,” says Steve Toy, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “We want to remind the public to call 310-SPCA if you see an animal in distress.”
I am very happy to hear that this woman will be banned from having pets for the rest of her life and many people should be banned as well.
