Roaming black bear contained in Hawkesbury

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hawkesbury detachment would like to inform the public that the black bear observed roaming in local communities the past few days, was located and contained on Friday afternoon May 26, 2017 in the Hawkesbury area where it was proceeding into highly populated areas.
Sightings of the animal near Wendover and L’Orignal were reported to police within the last week where a bear live trap was setup by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).
OPP officers, along with Hawkesbury By-Laws, assisted Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry with containment of the black bear for public safety purposes.
OPP and MNRF perceived that the animal was in poor health and a danger to public safety. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Wildlife Technician dispatched the animal.
