FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – ROADWAY CLOSED
(South Stormont) – Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently at the scene of a two (2) vehicle fatal collision on Highway 401 Mile maker 769 (Ingleside), South Stormont Township.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that at approximately 12:30pm, a passenger vehicle travelling east on Highway 401 collided with an also eastbound tractor trailer.
The male driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver of tractor trailer was not injured.
Names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
SD&G OPP, assisted by OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to process the scene.
A section of Highway 401 (eastbound lanes only), between Brookdale Avenue (Cornwall) and Upper Canada Road (mm758) is closed to traffic with indicated Emergency Detour Routes (EDR) in place onto County Road 2. Due to construction in the Village of Long Sault motorists should expect long delays. Motorists travelling today are urged to avoid the area if possible. Due to damages to Highway 401 from a previous fatal collision in the area, closure will remain in place for an extended period of time.
