BUSES CANCELLED AGAIN in Cornwall Ontario JAN 23, 2019

For Wednesday January 23, 2019 all school vehicle transportation has been cancelled due to inclement weather and road conditions. Blowing snow with freezing rain is forecast for the region, resulting in dangerous driving conditions. Schools will remain open.

We have snow predicted for the day turning to mixed precipitation and freezing rain and ice pellets as temps warm up.

Expect more rain and warmer temperatures for Thursday.

Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

A few hours of freezing rain are expected this afternoon or this evening ahead of a warm front approaching from the southwest.

Precipitation will change over to rain or a mix of rain and wet snow in the wake of the front later tonight.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Snow changing to freezing rain this afternoon or evening.

A Colorado low will track northeast across Lake Huron and Georgian Bay today, then into Southern Quebec tonight. Most areas will receive 5 to 10 centimetres of snow today. Locally higher amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible in one or two localities before the changeover to freezing rain.

Note that freezing rain warnings are in effect.

Poor winter driving conditions are expected. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination.
