MULTI-VEHICLE COLLISION – COUNTY ROAD 17
(CHAMPLAIN TOWNSHIP) – On Monday February 25, 2019 at approximately 10:38 a.m., officers from the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Prescott-Russell Paramedic Service, and the Champlain Fire Department responded to a multi-motor vehicle collision on County Road 17, approximately 3 km east of Blue Corner Road in the Champlain Township.
This collision involved 18 motor vehicles of which eight were severely damaged. A total of seven motorists were transported by ambulance to local hospital, including three with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
County Road 17 was closed at Blue Corner Road and Longueuil Street and detours were in effect. The road has now been reopened to traffic.
OPP URGES CAUTION WHILE DRIVING – WHITEOUTS
(OTTAWA, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Headquarters urges motorists to use extreme caution on the roads today, February 25, 2019 due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions. The most heavily impacted areas are east of Ottawa, where there have been road closures and numerous minor collisions.
If you do encounter a whiteout, slow down. Pullover and stop. Do not stop in the live traffic lane, Stay in your vehicle for your own safety. If driving, watch for stopped vehicles.
Slow down and adjust your driving to changing conditions.
