Cornwall Man Charged After Not Paying Taxi Fare #CPS #CCPS 062719

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT, UNLAWFULLY IN A DWELLING, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 30-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on June 26th, 2019 and charged with criminal harassment, unlawfully in a dwelling, as well as breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. He was also charged with breach of recognizance for being within 200 metres of a certain person. It is alleged throughout June, the man repeatedly contacted his ex-girlfriend, as well as attended her residence without permission. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On June 26th, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

TRANSPORTATION FRAUD, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Shawn Collins, 21, of Ottawa was arrested on June 26th, 2019 and charged with transportation fraud, as well as breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man did not pay for his taxi fare from Ottawa to Cornwall and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Ashley King, 36, of Cornwall was arrested on June 27th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. She was also charged with breach of conditional sentence order for failing to abide by her curfew. It is alleged on June 11th, 2019, the woman attended a Sydney Street business and used a counterfeit $100 American bill, receiving a quantity of valid Canadian currency in exchange as her change. Police were contacted and a warrant was issued for her arrest. During the early morning hours on June 27th, 2019, police located the woman in breach of her conditions and took the woman into custody. The warrant was executed and she was held for a bail hearing.

There were 56 calls for service in the City of Cornwall in the last 24 hours. (8:00 am yesterday to 8:00 am this morning).

REQUEST FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

Cornwall, ON – On the morning of June 27th, 2019 at approximately 4:30 am, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) received a call to attend the area of Pitt Street and Sixth Street as a man was found with serious injuries and was subsequently transported to the hospital.

The CPS Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Unit are on scene to determine what transpired. We are still in the early stages of the investigation and are asking any witnesses who may have seen what took place to contact Detective Constable J. Update: 10:06 am – The area of Pitt Street and Sixth Street is now being re-opened for traffic. The investigation remains ongoing.
