Driver Charged in Alcohol Fueled Christmas Eve Collision Fatality of 71 Year Old Prescott Woman

DECEMBER 26, 2021 – On December 24, 2021 at around 10:30 p.m. officers from the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a passenger car. The collision occurred on County Road Two and Galop Canal in the Edwardsburgh Township.

Preliminary investigation has revealed the driver of the pick-up truck and passenger car were involved in a head on collision. Despite life saving measures provided by Leeds and Grenville Emergency Services, the 71 year old female from Prescott was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The other driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators, (TCI) were called to assist with the investigation. A portion of County Road Two remained closed overnight, and has since been reopened to traffic. A post mortem has been ordered. Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

The 36 year old driver from Edwardsburgh, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Operation causing death sec. 320.14(3)
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) sec. 320.14(1)(b) 

The driver’s licence was seized and the vehicle was towed. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on January 7, 2022.
