CFN Municipal Candidate Reviews For Cornwall & South Stormont O’NEILL CARR COFFEY CAMERON

ballotCFN is reviewing and rating local candidates this election instead of endorsing.

Our next candidates for review are  Mike O’Neill, Denis Carr, Reg Coffey, Chris Cameron

Mike O’Neill.  Where the heck did he come from?

He ran one of the best campaigns as far as how he handled himself and presented his vision and hopes for the future of our city.

I’d love to work with someone like him.  If he is elected I think it certainly would be step in the right direction.

Problem for Mr. O’Neill is that he spent very little on campaign advertising and signage and simply may not have enough public awareness to penetrate the voters presence on the 27th.

Ratings are for Perceived Honesty & Integrity, Vision and Action, Accessibility & Accountability, Leadership & Strength, and Win#

All are on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best.

Denis Carr has a major battle for him to get elected again.  I like Denis Carr; but I think Mr. Carr may be better suited to running Heart of the City than serving council.    I also think that Carr should have to make a choice as frankly in my opinion and quite a few others there is a gross conflict of interest in wearing both hats.

Denis is also part of the Kilger council that has burnt through an awful lot of  money on scandals and mayhem.   He has to live with his role with that mess.

Reg Coffey has had to run his campaign for council under a lot of strain. He’s a kind, intelligent gentle soul who really has given a lot to his community.  If it wasn’t for Reg Coffey CFN would never have supported and helped make the Long Sault Farmer’s Market the success it became and there would be no South Stormont News.  Sadly he has had to pay a price for that which has seen people plumb to some very depraved depths(in particular the Donna Primeau farce which hampered five years of Reg’s work with the South Stormont Chamber of Commerce)  which added a lot of strain to his family.

I have a hunch that the public will have paid a price for that in the end as South Stormont could use people with Reg’s talents and vision.  (Reg Coffey is a minority shareholder in both CFN and SSN)

Chris Cameron has worked very hard on his campaign with the support of his family and friends.    He’s accomplished himself as a community activist even though some of those issues may not always have been popular.  He actually at one point worked with Tammy Hart when the community passed a by law that would prevent signage laws that have impacted other communities.

I’m not sure anyone has knocked on more doors in South Stormont this election.

  1. Perhaps instead of Perceived Honesty & Integrity it should have also included Honesty & Integrity in Actuality. I was surprised by your rating for Denis Carr.

  2. Author

    How so?

  3. With all that is wrong with Denis Carr I find his ratings far too high. To me he is lime Elaine MacDonald, one who fails to declare conflicts of interest. When ANYTHING related to Heart of the City is brought before council he should step down from discussions and votes.

  4. The total points for Coffey and O’Neil add up to 28 and not 25.

  5. I agree Hugger1 that Denis and Elaine definitely have some common ground. Their perceived conflicts of interests however do not disturb anyone presently on council so would that not indicate that it is a non issue? Council represents the of the community right? The election results will reflect whether the majority of voters are still as enamoured with their previous choices.

  6. Perceived conflicts of interest?? It may not bother other members of council and be a non-issue to them. But it bothers the taxpayers and voters. Hopefully this problem is fixed tomorrow.

  7. Hey Hugger1 or anyone …have you ever seen Elaine MacDonald or any city councilor or the mayor using the dedicated bike lanes? I am very mobile and out and about and to date this year I have only once seen a bicycle in one of the dedicated lanes. I would love to know what figures/estimates were used for council to justify the expenditure of creating the dedicated lanes. Not that they are not a bad idea but more of what was the point when there is no visual evidence to support a demand?

  8. David Oldham….agreed. Bicyclists in Cornwall seem to like riding on the sidewalks. And I am totally baffled at the conversion of Second St. E to bike lanes as well. Smart move Cornwall…converting one of the busiest streets from four lanes to two with no proof the bike lanes are needed or used.
