Rivalry weekend; skate with Nats on Sunday
The Cornwall Nationals may be an expansion team, but they have already established a couple of fascinating rivalries in the Federal Hockey League.
Cornwall travels to Berlin on Friday night to take on the River Drivers at 8 p.m. The Nationals held on to beat second-place Berlin 7-5 last Sunday at the Civic Complex.
No matter the venue, when Cornwall faces Berlin, fireworks typically ensue. Case in point, the two teams combined for 105 penalty minutes on Jan. 29 in Cornwall.
The Nationals will wrap up the weekend with a home-and-home series with their closest rival, the Watertown Wolves.
Cornwall travels to Watertown on Saturday night (7:30 p.m.) before welcoming the Wolves to the Ed Lumley Arena inside the Civic Complex on Sunday afternoon. FHL action begins at 1 p.m.
Immediately after Sunday’s game, fans can skate with the Nationals. The event is completely free to anyone who has a ticket to the game.
Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for seniors/students and $5 for children under the age of 12.
PEANUT BUTTER CHALLENGE: The Nationals are challenging fans to bring a new jar of peanut butter to the game on Sunday. The goal is to collect 100 jars for The Agape Centre. After touring The Agape Centre recently, the team was surprised to find out that one of the items they are constantly in need of is peanut butter. Each fan who donates a jar will be given a raffle ticket at the door on Sunday. Prizes will be drawn during the second intermission. Visit our official Facebook page for more details!
