Dog Attack Causes Death of a Shih Tzu 

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Tuesday February 27, 2018, members of the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment responded to an animal complaint in Vankleek Hill in the Champlain Township.

While walking her two small dogs on Tuesday afternoon, the citizens’ Shih Tzu was attacked by a large Great Dane/Lab mix. Serious injuries resulted in the dog’s passing a short time later.

Investigation revealed that the owner had the large dog on a leash but because of the size and weight of the Great Dane, she lost control of the leash when the dog began running towards the smaller dogs and attacked the Shih Tzu.

The owner of the Great Dane was charged under the Dog Owner Liability Act with Fail to prevent dog from biting, attacking a person or domestic animal.

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on April 5, 2018

 

A Shoplift Investigation Solved Several More

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – In January 2018, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Dominique Sauve investigated a shoplifting incident that occurred at the LCBO store on Main Street in the Town of Hawkesbury.

The investigation resulted in identifying the suspects and solving several others shoplift incidents since November 2017 at the LCBO.

39-year-old female, Cora Lee NORTON of Hawkesbury, ON was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with five (5) counts of Theft Under $5000- Shoplifting.

42-year-old male, James GORDON of Hawkesbury, ON was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with four (4) counts of Theft Under $5000- Shoplifting.

They were both released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on March 7, 2018.

 

Excessive Speed Resulted in Several Charges

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – In January 2018, members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a traffic complaint of a motor vehicle travelling at an excessively high rate of speed.

The vehicle, a black 2017 Hyundai Accent, was located and intercepted by Constable Dominique Sauve on Highway 417 in the East Hawkesbury Township.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had operated his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was issued a 3 day suspension for having a Blood Alcohol Concentration between 0.05 and 0.08.

Investigation revealed that he was driving without a valid driver’s licence and was in violation of his conditions.

Steve DUARTE (44 yrs) of Laval, QC was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– Breach of Recognizance (2 counts)

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following sections:

– Drive motor vehicle – no licence

– Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed

The vehicle was seized and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 7 days.

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.

He is also to appear at the Ontario Provincial Offences Court in L’Orignal on March 7, 2018 for his driving offences.

 

Impaired by Alcohol

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Saturday March 3, 2018, at 3:15 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Patrick Spooner intercepted a black 2012 Dodge Ram on Sinclair Street in the Town of Hawkesbury.

Interaction with the female driver gave the officer reason to believe that she had operated her motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.

Consequently, the driver, Danika LAROCQUE (31 yrs) of Hawkesbury, ON was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

She was later released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on March 21, 2018

 

Impaired by Alcohol

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Saturday morning March 3, 2018, just prior to 6:00 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Matthew Beausoleil intercepted a white 2016 Kia Sorento on John Street in Hawkesbury.

The vehicle was stopped for travelling at an excessively high rate of speed on the Long Sault Bridge.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had driven his motor vehicle with his abilities impaired by alcohol.

Nathan LAUZON (30 yrs) of Cornwall, ON was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following sections:

– Speeding 50+ Km/h over posted limit

– Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero

The traffic stop resulted in locating open alcohol inside the vehicle.

The driver was charged under the Liquor Licence Act with the following section:

– Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in L’Orignal on March 21, 2018
