Cornwall Ontario – After following up on a lead SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon confirmed that the January shooting of Babak Saidi, while checking into the Morrisburg OPP detachment has been limited to one officer.
“The SIU is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Mr. Saidi in Morrisburg last year. The SIU’s investigation is focused on the actions of one of the police officers who was involved in the interaction. In addition, ten other police officers have been designated as witness officers.
“As each case has its own requirements and procedures, it is not possible to say how long any investigation will take. The length of an investigation is dependent on how long it takes to locate witnesses and interview them, the time it takes to collect all evidence and the time it takes for the SIU to obtain reports from external agencies. While investigators attempt to complete investigations as expeditiously as possible, the priority is to conduct a thorough investigation.”
There has been very little information released since the fatality which made regional news.
