BREAKING Court House Evacuation in Cornwall Ontario SEPT 16, 2019 WILL UPDATE

The Provincial Courthouse at 29 Second Street West, was evacuated when fire alarms sounded at approximately 11:00 a.m., Monday 16 Sep 2019.

Several apparatus from both Fire Stations were on the scene, and firefighters were in and out, and on the rooftop, inspecting the building.

A number of Cornwall and Ontario Provincial Police were around the building along with courthouse staff, to maintain order and security.

Evacuees included, court officers, spectators, parties to legal proceedings, and also several prisoners that were rounded up and driven away in a vehicle marked “Offender Transport”… the vehicle may have been at capacity, as indicated by several lawyers being seen wandering about freely.

UPDATE 3:10 PM from the Cornwall Police

” On September 16th, 2019 at approximately 11:10 am, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) was called to assist with an evacuation at the Cornwall Courthouse. The investigation revealed a 16-year-old youth had allegedly damaged a sprinkler and caused it to rupture, resulting in the activation of the fire alarms. The youth was charged with one count of mischief, and was held in custody to await a bail hearing. The Cornwall Fire Department have since cleared the building and normal operations have resumed at the courthouse. “
