CFN – Sometimes politicians can be their own worst enemies. My political mentor, Keith Beardsley once spoke from the mountain.
He does that a lot. Some of what “Dr. Evil” says is highly valuable.
One of the first lessons he taught me was;
Don’t get caught in the splash.
Christine Elliott, former front runner in the leadership race, essentially panicked with her team flinging some political excrement about the Brown team fudging on numbers. I’m not sure I know of a politician that hasn’t fudged numbers. I do know that she’s sprinkled some of that PE all over her campaign now.
In a leadership race or election tempers and emotions can rise and clearly Mr. Brown, coming out of nowhere, has her team realizing that he is either ahead of Ms Elliott or really close. The leadership race is now a two horse sprint with Monte McNaughton around to trip up Ms Elliott near the finish if he can.
Mr. Brown has placed himself as a party clique outsider and stated the obvious, that the “old boys” that gave the party Tim Hudak, and they can not defeat Kathleen Wynne. That seed has grown roots, grass roots, and his campaign has the momentum right now with Elliott playing defense which is never how you score goals. Ask Wayne Gretzky.
Ms Elliott now is caught in the splash of her latest attack. Clearly her team have never read the Prince by Machievelli or hung out with talented people like Keith Beardsley.
As he or any good political battle room organizer could tell you an attack has to hit the target and resonate. This latest volley doesn’t pass the stink test. Every legal beagle will tell you to never ask a question unless you know the answer first, and in politics asking question or making an attack with lots of back doors is never very powerful.
It should be a very interesting race.
Who do you think will win? Brown? Elliott? Ontario? You can post your comments below.
If Brown takes the leadership, the Liberals win.
Are you 100% sure of that Furtz?
Not 100%, but I don’t think Ontario voters will go for a social conservative, anti-gay, anti-choice premier. Hudak might have been a fool, but at least he kept that kind of BS to himself.
Sometimes politicians can be their own worst enemies??
Furtz honestly. If Hudak hadn’t imploded personally I think the silly bugger would be premier of a minority government this very morning.
Frankly all the PC’s have to do is run a breathing candidate that doesn’t pull a Hudak and they should be fine.
Enough with these majority government’s the bulldoze and bully.
They need a leader who isn’t a nut-bar. Even Steven Harper doesn’t trust Brown with any responsibility.

That’s asking a lot from the PC’s.

You are correct Hugger, considering that two of the three leadership hopefuls are certifiable nut-bars. They have a pretty shallow pool of talent these days. Sad really, because the Libs should be shown the door.
Furtz I am going to vote for Patrick Brown and yes I am anti gay, anti same sex marriage and I am very hard line and will vote for Harpoon Harpo as well. Like my husband said for many years is that the people in Canada, US, etc. have way too much freedom and it is long overdo for the clamp down.
Furtz, did you look at his website? Looks like he is not just a sitting way back bench-er. Also, he probably gets the minority votes being bilingual and has been excessively visiting much of Toronto.
What are you using for a yardstick to grant/ measure nut-bar status? ?
In the 41st Parliament, Patrick is playing an active role in serving as a member of the Standing Committee on Health, as a member of the Neurological Disorders Subcommittee, the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee, the Juvenile Diabetes All Party Caucus and he is the Co-Chair of the Malaria Caucus. In 2011, Patrick was appointed by his party as the Chair for the Central Ontario Caucus.
In recent years, Patrick has accompanied and provided strategic advice to Prime Minister Harper on official visits to Japan (2012 Free Trade), Thailand (2012 – Free Trade), South Korea (2012 Nuclear Summit) and India (2009 -Economic Framework Agreement).
With all due respect to so many of your readers Jamie I guess we’ll have to wait and see who is selected to lead the Provincial Conservatives. Personally I will continue to support Christine Elliott for that Job as I think she is the best person to rebuild the Conservative party and defeat the Liberals.
Personally I am rooting for the taxpayer to win.
Never thought the day would come that we would see Furtz value the opinion of his prime minister Stephen Harper. “Even Steven Harper doesn’t trust……” Pigs do fly after all.
Jules, we all know know about your homophobia. So yes, Patrick Brown is your best choice.
Eric, are you saying that Patrick Brown’s website contains glowing reports about Patrick Brown? Boggles the mind, it does!
You think we have too many freedoms? Feel free to leave if you don’t believe in democracy.
Patrick Brown is taking this job very seriously. He has visited the north 7 times during this campaign, is the only bilingual candidate in the race (this is huge for the PC Party since there are over 611,000 franco-Ontarians)& is not affiliated with the Hudak platform of cutting 100,000 public sector jobs. Elliott was the Deputy Leader j signed-off on the policy. Patrick Brown was a huge factor in helping Harper win 10 seats in the GTA last Fed., election. He has the experience & youthfulness required for the PC’s to win the next election. He has the most energy I’ve seen in a politician in a very long time. Elliott’s membership #’s will be reality when the PC Party reveals early April. My prediction: she sold 15,335 maximum.

I will vote for Patrick Brown come May, I believe that he is the best person to rebuild the P C party & lead it to victory.
Furtz, glowing reports? You wrote the PM doesn’t trust Brown with responsibility, and I showed he is just not sitting on the back bench warming a seat. Are you trying to distract from showing your proof on him being a nutbar? Of course, the proof is the proof, if it is good proof, it is because it is proven – EX PM Jean C.
Elliott signed off on Hudak’s 100,000 jobs debacle? Sure, and so did Bugs Bunny. No other PC candidate knew about it until they saw it in the papers the next day. Methinks LaVieEnchante is on Brown’s campaign team. He/she would have to be to come up with that BS.
Mary, since McNaughton self-destructed, the Libs and Dippers are rooting for Brown too.
Eric, you just cut and pasted stuff from Brown’s campaign literature. Not exactly an impartial assessment of his qualifications to lead the party. And anyone who would attend an anti-gay rally with Charles McVety (Google him), I consider a nut-bar.
Although Libs and Dippers will be over the moon if Brown wins the leadership, I won’t be. I too would like to see the Cons rebuild and present a credible alternative to the Liberals. With Brown as leader, they will remain a joke for years to come.
Now Furtz it’s tough being a politician. At his event in Cornwall Mr. Brown sat next to South Stormont Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart. I bet he wasn’t aware of her dances with the Integrity Commish and other strange and odd behavior….btw, the tax cutting Hart just raised taxes 3% in South Stormont and the chopped their animal control person at an incamera meeting. Odd enough it’s not quite the norm to discuss RFP’s in camera. That SS fired their integ commish….wonder who led that charge? Ms Hart clearly isn’t standing on her calls for transparency and accountability.
No surprise that Hart is a Brown supporter. She had the hots for Hudak at one time too.
Mary Patrick Brown has my vote as well.
