Bob Peters Clique Burning Through Cornwall Cash While Staff Get Wages Frozen? MAY 26, 2017

Cornwall Ontario – Can you imagine a magazine called “Cornwall Living” not really about living in Cornwall?   The vanity magazine is grossly subsidized by Bob Peters and the City via its Economic Development department.

You can’t blame TC media who simply are trying to run a business, but when City Staffers are about to have their wages frozen does it make sense to see bags of cash spent on such rubbish?  $20K here, $20K there..it adds up as you can tell from your tax bills each year.

It’s a circle jerk vanity mag filled with pics of Peter’s friends and family usually.  Perusing Seaway News coverage of it yesterday it was hysterical to see Lori Greer featured on a photo at the big shindig at NAV Can.  Were you invited?  Bet you weren’t unless you were part of the impotent circle that’s draining this city dry of cash and opportunity.

Lori runs the United Way.  She’s missed her fundraising goal for at least two years.  She, following bootstrap with Peter’s Lumleyesque boycott of this newspaper, misses out on the largest amount of eyeballs in the city she’s trying to raise funds in. (About 13 million human pageviews last year alone)  Normally missing a target for two years in a row would be fodder for a replacement, not featured photo, but then again this is a community that saw Team Cornwall Prez Peter Gault single out disgraced former President Gilles Latour at their year end celebration of um….I’m not sure what.

The Freeholder have their own little magazine which debuted this week as well. Peters Choose Cornwall release was tepid as best.  Could it be because he doesn’t get to quarterback it or have it purchase photos of his kid and friends yearly?

Peters also is a closet journalist wannabee as he’s literally taking cash out of local media pockets by running articles on the Choose Cornwall website that either should be picked up from local media or not run at all.   Some businesses have actually said why should they by an opening ad when Peters will give them a limp write up?

Of course there’s the dark shadow of corruption and influence.   If you don’t keep the poobahs at City Hall happy you might have problems getting permits or your business being successful because of influence.    This is a town where the foppish Andre Pommier called up this newspaper once and stated that Peters told him to buy an ad including how much to pay for it.

While it’s nice to sell any ad that kind of influence only hurts a community.  Mix in his working on City time during the first Kilger re-election campaign, cover up of his first departure from City Hall, and a disastrous local economy that now sees his office taking over tourism and is it any wonder why Cornwall is in the position it is financially?

The bigger question of course is Peter’s so much the problem or senior management like Maureen Adams who ok’s all this or City Council who ok’s the enchilada?  (yes, I’m culturally appropriating that term)

At a certain point the well will be empty, the damage done.    This morning I was emailing a friend who simply gave up on this community after missing out several job opportunities to people like Graham and Lori Greer, and other hanger ons and friends of the Peter’s Clique.

Is it time to bring in New Management of Cornwall Ontario Economic Development?

Take a peek at the Seaway News online slideshow of the farce at NAVCAN (Bernadette Clement’s hen pack choice for beverages)

Mel Brulee on the cover.  A modest talent that left Cornwall.  A feature on Ryan Gosling, about a decade too late, a conflicted failure of a mayor and the manager of NAV CAN that plays ball with the clique boycott of this newspaper.

Gerry Benson and his pet monkey David Murphy who he’s pushing to run for mayor (David after watching your Russian Bear dance with Dan Allaire my offer to box you is still open even though you chickened out of the first)  along with Amanda Brisson who runs a sexual assault facility that stayed mum when Seaway News reporter Adam Brazeau (replaced not long after) essentially online sexually abused a woman shortly before an event (Adam Brazeau of TC Media Seaway News Pulls a Mini Jian Ghomeshi Day of Anti Sexual Assault Rally in Cornwall Ontario) and stayed silent and allowed him to participate in her fundraiser.  (I kid you not.  The things someone will do to keep their job…even though that very silence might be cause for termination) Andre Pommier and another charity stooge, MP Lauzon who never misses a party while nursing his failed choice for Conservative leader in Kevin O’Leary, and in each pic you don’t see much if any people in the background.    And ultimately paid for by the taxpayers of Cornwall.  Is Cornwall Living about living in Cornwall Ontario or about glorifying the parasite class of this community?    Can you imagine the services that could be provided by this total waste of money?

Cornwall does need to promote itself.  There are many many stories that should be promoted.  There are people like this newspaper’s Dawn Ford who after a lifetime of nursing now does a Seniors column on this newspaper who’s about to celebrate her 100th column.   In fact we are going to assist in the publication of a book of her columns and asked the City for the same funding that other artists get who are Cornwall Centric (usually about $1 per cd or book for a limited first run as it promotes the community) with no reply to date.    Yet Mr. Peters spends thousands every year promoting the same old same old.

What do you think dear CFN viewers?  Is it time to drain the swamp and actually create opportunity in this community where none really exists unless you fall under the thumb of such mediocrity?

UPDATE

A leak from City Hall alleges that CAO Maureen Adams had city managers attend a meeting this week which included  a presentation from Bob Peters who allegedly shared that there were 36,000 copies of Cornwall Living (as opposed to about 9,000 of the Freeholder’s offering) and that a joke was made about feeling free to take a box to share.  The managers were asked to attend the NAVCAN event as well to show support.

To add insult to injury during the paid lunch it was alleged that Ms Adams shared that there would be no raises for management this year.

The big question, which CFN will be emailing Ms Adams about, is how much is the City paying TC media for such a large print run of such a narrow focus magazine?

  1. A recent issue saw just shy of a hundred copies sit in the NavCanada magazine rack for a couple of months — in fact 92 copies had to be dumped to make room for the next unread issue.
    So…
    How many copies are printed?
    What’s the total cost?
What credible mechanism measures the bang for buck?
Whose pockets get lined from production, to printing, to distribution, and lastly, to the blue box?

  2. Author

Mr. Peters for example Simon has not answered if either he’s being paid by TC media for his contributions to the Magazine. And why isn’t the Freeholder or other media offerings given equal support? Why isn’t any said support based on actual audience and results? I can tell you that several years ago this newspaper wanted to do a digital magazine that actually would reflect the larger part of the community; not just the sliver it seems to represent, but Peters kiboshed that.

  3. Jamie what is Cornwall Living? I have never seen that before and there is a paper or two that I have never heard about as well. Anything to do with the clique which brought the town down to hell I wouldn’t waste one minute on it. I would have to use it as toilet paper and nothing else.

  4. Jamie your paper is the very best and all the people who left Cornwall years ago check out your paper. We all know that Cornwall is mighty corrupt and that is how we all left that place. The clique destroyed the town literally and it will never come back at all ever. That crazy magazine I see is left unread at Nav Canada. It is only toilet paper and a big waste of paper and ink.

Jules Cornwall Living is a magazine published by the Seaway News to promote our city. Sadly it’s turned into something that’s embarrassing Cornwall being essentially being a personal mag for Mr. Peter’s and his circle of friends unless you pay thousands for a spread like Medical Arts Pharmacy or some of the other saps that help pay for the vanity hot mess.

  6. A nice lady who works with my daughter who is originally from Cornwall blocked her nose because of the stink down there. I told her that everything left and no more stink. We had a good laugh and she is a nice person along with a lot of the people that my daughter works with. Cornwall used to be a nice town but with that clique it went bye byes. When you have bad people running it that is what

  7. How long ago did mighty Jules leave Cornwall?

And the captcha feature really needs to be fixed so it works.

  8. I don’t know what that magazine would promote for Cornwall since everything is closing down. You get rid of my favorite haunt the material store, now I see the arts are continuing to close down like the dance studio. There used to be a woman named Dixon or something like that who taught dance in her home in Cornwall – all closed down. What is there that is left? Nothing.

  9. Jamie you had an article about fire cracker sales and I just came across an article about a man in Cornwall who wanted to bomb a place. OMG! LOL LOL. ROLF! I am literally shaking my head and laughing at the same time because there are many people who are very mentally ill and should not have such things. The net is a source of a lot of evil as well. This must be part of Cornwall Living Magaz

  10. Hugger I have been in Ottawa for 13 years and I have been here in the 70’s and 80’s era for 20 years. I have never seen that weird magazine of Bob Peters at all. I don’t belong to Cornwall’s BIG CLUB LOL LOL. If my mug shot was on that magazine I would hide somewhere and never come out at all. I would feel very ashamed.

  11. Jeez talk about not understanding. Fabricland is closing because the increased rent would mean the store wouldn’t make a profit. Or at least not enough to kee the store open. The dance studio is closing because the owner is retiring. Nothing sinister as has been suggested.

  12. Author

Hugger the dance studio may be saying she’s retiring, but she’s boycotted CFN since day one and simply couldn’t compete with the other studios.

  13. Too many dance studios and supposed “arts” facilities in Cornwall.

  14. Author

Hugger dance is well supported in Cornwall with several good schools and teachers. Jane Macmillan played clique politiques taking her artwork out of the gallery shortly after my term at the gallery started as well.

Petty politics have hurt this community and will continue until people stop enabling the bully class.

  15. I agree. But until voters stop electing cronies………..

  16. Author

Hugger we saw some progress last election. In the meanwhile people have seen their taxes go up without any benefit, the local economy tank, corruption, conflict of interest, seniors getting noise violations for listening to Abba, kids bullied by the city for selling worms, and of course rinkgate.

People are more aware and if some good people step up with a clear vision in the next election I think they’ll be a lot of changes.

  17. Progress was achieved at the last election. But, IMHO, we have stepped back since then. This one step forward three steps back has to stop.

  18. Author

Hugger some of the best council candidates didn’t get elected last election. Some of them didn’t even run. When you look at who was elected these results aren’t surprising. If they put have as much energy into developing this community as trying to run me out of town Cornwall would be flying 🙂

The good news is that CFN viewers will be the strongest bloc in the next election if enough good people step up we’ll have some major changes coming up!

  19. Jamie you took the words out of my mouth. Jamie I mean it 100% that you are a very good man and I don’t say something that I don’t mean. There are people who can do a good job as mayor and council but not the bunch who was elected this time – it is a real joke. Cornwall should be very proud to have a good man like yourself and the sheeple have to smarten up and change for the better.

  20. There are people in Cornwall who are well qualified to be mayor and council and they shy away. This system of shying away has to stop now. Stop feeling like the clique is above you – I have news for you – the clique is only as strong as you make it. If the people were to change there would be no clique at all. I feel very superior and it is my character compared to many people.

  21. Author

Jules the problem is certain city managers and the way things are done at 360. It takes courage to make real change. When I was on the board of the Chamber of Commerce many of my fellow board members wanted to dump Lezlie Strasser, but were afraid of the cost and issues. She’s still there and the results are clear.

  22. When I was a child growing up in Cornwall a few teachers (not my teachers but others) commented to my mom that I had a superior attitude compared to others. I am like my dad’s mom (my grandmother) and my parents (both sides) were very well known in Cornwall but I couldn’t care less. I left and I picked myself up and left and never regretted anything at all. People in Cornwall have to change.

  23. Jamie whoever this Lezlie Strausser is she has a hold on people and she isn’t the only one. There are others like her down there. I worked with a trouble maker like her in the government and this woman lives in Alfred Ontario and she was big trouble in the unit and this is all true. When I left it was the first time that she smiled at me in front of the library downtown and greeted me well.

  24. People in Cornwall are going to have to learn to develop a personality. All those who are educated should be able to lead and you Jamie are number 1. I wanted Leslie in before because I knew the mentality of the people down there but you can surpass every one of them. Following the clique is what kept Cornwall way down.

  25. Author

Jules I think it has to do with allegations that the Chamber was feeding the Driver’s License information to Guy Lauzon and the local Conservatives before the Province put in its new system a few years ago.

  26. The lady that I told you about from Alfred Ontario bullied many people in the unit and so much so that our supervisor didn’t interfere because of her bad health – heart disease. One time some of the men put a file cabinet in front of her and we thought that she was having a heart attack and I ran up to her boss to move it and I was crying afraid to lose her.

  27. Something is seriously wrong in the world when I agree with both Jules and Jamie’s comments. What is wrong for that to happen??

  28. The taxes are way beyond what they should be in Cornwall – there is nothing there. Here in Ottawa the taxes are horrendously high but someone has to pay for Trudeau’s salary. We are staying put in this place at least for now. The rents and home ownership are completely insane. All I hear outside are emergency vehicles going by from morning till night. This is crazy – no peace and quiet at all

  29. Author

Jules from what I’ve heard the biggest problem in Ottawa is healthcare. The Civic emerg seems to be a disaster.

  30. Jamie the Civic Hospital has a great deal of problems and so do the other hospitals. The very worst is the General Hospital. My daughter waited 10 hours back in 08 to see a doctor and she had viral pneumonia and couldn’t even see her own GP. I would take the Civic any day over the General. The staff at the Civic are a great deal nicer even with their problems.

  31. The hospitals here in Ottawa are not as clean as Cornwall’s at all and the staff are very ignorant. Even the secretaries where my daughter found a GP are ignorant and it was posted on line about them. My daughter just goes for her thyroid renewal and things like that. My daughter’s dermatologist moved near the airport so hubby will drive us. Rents are mighty expensive and landlords are hell.

  32. Hugger when I write this down I will need a psychiatrist to see what is wrong with me. LOL LOL. ROLF! Honest to God Hugger you are a good person as well. Oh God did I say that? LOL LOL. Yes Hugger I said that. If you had your health you could run as a counsellor but that would drive you insane dealing with the public. Ask my daughter dealing as a cashier. She made 96.6% and no jobs.

  33. Author

Jules I don’t think Hugger would make a good councilor for some of the same reasons he’s afraid to post with his real name on CFN even though he posts on facebook with his real name on other media sites…..

  34. Jamie I guess Hugger has his reasons just like I have and some others. Hugger is protecting his wife and I am protecting my children and husband. It isn’t easy working with the public at all – it is a real hell where my daughter works and makes Wal Mart look easy and Wal Mart is very busy but nothing compared to daughter’s work site.

  35. Jamie in order to deal with the public you have to have very thick skin. The public here in Ottawa are mighty rude especially the foreigners. I know I have dealt with enough and want none of them around since many years. You cannot please the people these days at all. I remember the much better days both Cornwall and Ottawa. Today I couldn’t handle it at all.

  36. Author

Jules I lived in Ottawa for a few years and found it cold when it came to people. Until the boycott and hate group I met a lot of really nice, but gutless people here in Cornwall. Gradually a lot backed away because of flack and kid like pressure from the bullies in their lives.

  37. I wouldn’t want to be a councillor here. I couldn’t / wouldn’t put up with all the crap that is spewed by council. I think my head would explode. I’ve explained why I use a pseudonym here. I’m not afraid but I do know that I have people to protect, that’s why a pseudonym is used. I’m not the only one who has figured out what is what in Cornwall. And realize what I have to do to protect my wife.

  38. On the other sites I post to yes I do use my real name. But on those sites I do not criticize to the same extent I do here. Though I have mellowed the last little while on it all. Good? Bad? I don’t know. But I have my reasons for what I do and I won’t be swayed.

  39. Author

Now Hugger what does that say about the City Hall led boycott when a grown man like yourself essentially writes that he’s afraid of blowback to his family from these thugs? That you want to post here, but have to use a pseudonym when you use your real name posting to other media via facebook?

And you’re one of the few that are public. There are many others that are too fearful to even post.

  40. It says this city is dysfunctional and has been for a very long time. And I don’t see it being fixed. Elections can’t fix stupid. Some may say I’m afraid, but I prefer a much different way of looking at things.I do what I have to to protect what is mine.I’ll repeat what I said before “on those other sites I do not criticize to the same extent I do here.” I can’t sit without saying something. So….

  41. Author

Hugger look at our polls page. People might not publicly have the testicular fortitude to say certain things in public, but many want the same things.

If we can elect a strong council willing to tackle the problems with the management culture at City Hall, actually fight to cut taxes, and find common ground and become inclusive rather than exclusive I think we can improve this city mightily.

Of course the odds of that happening are fluid. It’ll take a lot of hard work by the real good people of this city.

  42. I agree it needs to happen. Whether that happens is a totally different story. We’ll see in 18 months. I hope it does. But I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

  43. I understand fully well what Hugger is going through trying to protect his family. I have family in Cornwall and don’t want repercussions and they are all well known. I prefer my wacky self under a pseudonym but I come out with my true feelings and I don’t want anyone hurt. One thing about Cornwall is that some of the people do have a heart unlike here in Ottawa. Ottawa is mighty snobbish.

  44. Health Care is terrible here in Ottawa and we had that experience with my daughter back in 08 and last year I took sick for the first time and hubby and my daughter drove me there and I refused to go in because I knew that I would be there day and night and not be seen by a doctor like what happened to my daughter. The gangs come in and are treated first and it is a hell hole to be in.

  45. What Hugger said is that elections can’t fix what is stupid. I can be wrong but many many many years ago I heard that a certain mayor in Cornwall made certain policies that the town must be run in such a way and cannot be changed. I could be wrong in what I heard but this is what I have heard. There are many well qualified people and they don’t run. Many are educated and intelligent and know

  46. Cornwall needs to right the ship and they should start with its commander and captains. The expression “what have you done for me lately” comes to mind. The self serving top paid bureaucrats working for the city need a serious reality check, I question their management abilities. Council members refuse to see what’s going on, they should take their head out of the sand and right the ship.

  47. Dave is right and everyone take a good hard look at all the misfits in as mayor and council and you will see the jokers who were elected. All of these idiots including those of senior management are totally unfit to even run a dog kennel. They are completely stupid and uneducated and are there to collect a pay cheque only. Get rid of everyone of them – they are completely useless.

  48. What I gather about this rag called Cornwall Living is for the cockroach snobs of a polluted town called Cornwall and for nobody else. It is a rag that is to be shoved down the sheeples faces saying “look at this you low lifes and get lost” and the sheeple keep going for more. The swamp in Cornwall is mighty deep and the sheeple are like stunned rabbits.

  49. I have been on CFN for a number of years and I can say that nothing bad ever came out of Hugger and was always on the defensive. I am the one who opens her mouth at every turn but not Hugger. I cannot live in Cornwall at all I cannot put up with the clique or any kind of insane backward idiots in council and mayor, etc. etc. etc. I don’t hold back and I tell it like it is.

  50. Yes the cost of living in Cornwall is a great deal less than Ottawa and of course it is much easier to get around in Cornwall even on foot. Things are a great deal harder for seniors here and don’t I know. I got off at a stop in the west end and had to walk 20 minutes for this old gal this is no fun at all. That was taking 3 buses out there and 3 back. OMG what a time we had.
