CFN – The Habs blinked and gave 35 year old Andrei Markov a three year contract with a $5.75 million dollar cap hit. They were trying for shorter term as +35 contracts in the NHL have some scary cap repercussions if a player retires. I have mixed feelings on thisContinue Reading
Ingleside – It was a great night for the Relay for Life cancer fund raiser in Farran’s Park last night. The weather co-operated in providing optimum conditions for the event and there were plenty of fundraisers walking the course. Thirty five teams with an average of 10 membersContinue Reading
Long Sault – The shoppers started to arrive at the Long Sault Farmer’s Market even as we were starting to set up our tents. Andrew Phillips of Avonmore Berry Farms was scrambling even with a helper this week to get set up while selling strawberries to the early birds. ThereContinue Reading
CFN – The Vancouver Canucks have placed David Booth on Unconditional waivers for the purpose of using one of the get out of jail no penalty compliance buy outs. I can’t blame them as he’s disappointed, especially at his cap hit vs expectations. But David Booth has size andContinue Reading
CFN – Heart’s longtime love affair with Canada – and Montreal in particular – dates back almost 40 years, to the night in 1976 when they were fired from Lucifer’s nightclub in Calgary, back when Heart was just another bar band . “I made some disparaging remark about the clubContinue Reading
CFN – Early media rumbles is that 36 year old Andrei Markov is asking $6M for 3 years from the Habs which begs the question of how much Matt Niskanen would cost Marc Bergevin if he’s allowed to go UFA? Niskanen is younger; had about the same amount of points,Continue Reading
CFN – There are days I wonder what Habs GM Marc Bergevin is thinking? This is one of them as he has rewarded coach Michel Therrien with a four year contract extension; that’s right FOUR YEARS! Yes the Habs had an extended stretch run this year; but is itContinue Reading
Long Sault – It might have been a wet dark and humid day at the market yesterday, and Friday the 13th too boot, but the sight and taste of fresh sweet strawberries brightened everyone’s day. Avonmore Berry Farm had a table full of these seasonal treats for theContinue Reading
Long Sault – It was a surprisingly busy day at the market on Friday afternoon, 6 June 2014. The weather started off a little iffy but by late afternoon it was very comfortable. People came out to see what was available and walked away with many of their favorites. TheContinue Reading
CFN – Oh. My. Gosh. This just may be one of my favourite paleofied meals so far! Today I am working from home, so that means that I get to get a little more creative for my lunch time meal. Usually I bring leftovers from the night before but sinceContinue Reading
CFN – Habs GM Marc Bergevin is going to be a very busy GM pretty soon. The biggest question of course is what to do with PK Subban? The most obvious is lock him up long term; but then not everything is obvious. While teams know that Montreal willContinue Reading
CFN – I will forever feel that Hockey is Canada’s game. I get that most of the players still duking it out for Lord Stanley’s Cup are Canucks, but without a Canadian team in play there’s no magic for me. I probably will not watch another game this year. AndContinue Reading
MASSENA NY – Theatre’s are a passion for Jeff Szot of JS Cinemas. He and his team have just seen the 56 Drive In join the digital age with a State of the Art NEC Digital projection system installed. The investment; near $100,000 by the time that it’s done,Continue Reading
CFN – Dustin Tokarski got more than the win last night as he and the Habs faced elimination on home ice and fought through for a 7-4 win. It was a weird and wacky game with Rangers star goalie “King” Henrik Lundqvist being chased from the net and Rene Bourque,Continue Reading
CORNWALL Ontario – Alas the River Kings, we knew them well. That David Murphy is quite a guy. He likes to sound like a game show host, but he also appears to be a string puller in the background using his clout at City Hall and with the Benson Group.Continue Reading
CFN – I’ve always had a soft spot for the Ottawa Senators. I’m not sure why; but their current ownership seem intent on destroying a team that actually had some tradition; first by not allowing Daniel “Alfie” Alfredsson to finish his career with honour, and now it looks like they’reContinue Reading
CFN – Habs goalie absolutely stole game three in their series vs the Rangers in NY last night as Montreal got an over time goal by Alex Galchenyuk for a 3-2 win. Montreal played a brutal game being drastically out shot and out played in spite of being behind inContinue Reading
