CORNWALL Ontario – Voters wanted change and they made their voices heard Monday night as Mayor Bob Kilger went down in flames. Going along with him were long term councilors Syd Gardiner, Denis Carr, the despised Glen Grant and Gerry Samson.
As of 9:25 PM one poll still wasn’t reporting but the numbers were clear with Leslie O’Shaugnessy garnering 6,277 votes to Bob Kilger’s 5,396.
CFN Editor Jamie Gilcig drew 687 votes.
But it was on council that most of the changes will be visible with first timers Carilyne Hebert, Justin Towndale, Claude McIntosh, and Brock Frost along with returning Mark A MacDonald joining now second term candidates David Murphy & Maurice Dupelle.
Bernadette Clement, Andre Rivette, and Elaine MacDonald.
The nail biter was Rivette who kept a slim lead over Guy St. Jean all evening.
Denis Carr, Glen Grant, & Syd Gardiner finished 11, 12, and 13th.
It marks the end to one of the dirtiest campaigns this journalist has ever seen which included gross media bias by the Seaway News & Cogeco.
In South Stormont voters were upset with ultra long delays in results which many are already questioning as telephone and computer voting were used.
Unofficial results include Jim Bancroft defeating incumbent Bryan McGillis. Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart being re-elected as well as councillor Rick Waldroff. Newcomers Donna Primeau & Dave “Grumpy” Smith all will most likely have to await a recount.
Glitches also impacted other area vote counts as many clearly wish for paper ballots.
CFN will have extensive coverage Tuesday!

YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is excellent news. Bare Ass has been ditched to the dump where he belongs. I hope that this time that things will work out a great deal better but one thing is certain you sure can’t get any worse than Bare Ass and he is the very worst mayor on record. Gee it is after 1 a.m. and I would love to dance the highland fling around here since I am overwhelmed with happiness to ditch Bare Ass out once and for all. Thank God.
A warm thank you for all who voted.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
Does my heart good to kick Bob to the curb, now Cornwall has that opportunity to grow & prosper
The head of the snake was cut off. Too bad we couldn’t have cut some of the other parts of the snake off. But I think with a new mayor this will be a vastly different council. I would have liked to see three more current councillors (Bernadette Clement, Elaine MacDonald and David Murphy) tossed out, but that’s just me. Perhaps with Leslie O’Shaugnessy as mayor he can get Bernadette Clement, Elaine MacDonald and David Murphy to act for the taxpayers and not the clique. As well, I hope Leslie will make sure Elaine MacDonald and David Murphy declare their conflicts of interest and refrain from participating in discussions and votes when the need arises.
As for South Stormont if the results stand it’s going to be interesting. Jim Bancroft is going to have his hands full dealing with Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart being re-elected along with her slate members Donna Primeau & Dave “Grumpy” Smith. We’ll have to see where Rick Waldroff stands. He could be a deciding factor in votes between the two sides.
It was a good election.
Also, was nice to see the reports on SF until Hugo dropped the ball shortly after 9 P.M. with only 4 polls to close where he said he had to work on the paper print for tomorrow and took off for nearly a half hour?
Kind of like a news anchor turning his back to the camera watching the big screen behind him and saying, “I want to watch this”!
Focus Man,focus!
Either delegate a task to someone else that can follow through or don’t do it at all!
That was a faux pa and if I were his boss, he would be getting a few choice words this morning of such an UN-professional move.

Jamie….you may have lost personally, but Cornwall had a massive change at the council table with a 63% turnover. Jaime and Cornwall were able to obtain what they wanted….CHANGE.
Marc the coverage by the Seaway News, Cogeco, and the Freeholder was biased. In particular the Seaway News tried to buy the election for their masters. It should be interesting to see if there’s any fallout within the next month. You might see some big changes there.
That is my real name and my first comment ever and I get moderated? What kind of censorship is this?
Hugger all of my goals were exceeded before the polls were closed. Last night was epic in many ways for the future of our city. It gave myself and others hope. It may not have been a perfect result; but it showed that clearly the message CFN has shared about the corruption, cronyism, and Old Boys way of doing things was smashed.
I think the bad guys now fully get that Cornwall reads CFN and that when they attack CFN they are attacking the people of Cornwall. And the new guys know that CFN and Cornwall are watching.
It was a great victory for all of us and as much as I’ve been getting messages of congratulations for what “I” did if it wasn’t for our amazing viewers reading and sharing nothing would have changed.
We all deserve congratulations; especially compared to South Stormont which took an epic step into the dark ages with the current results shown.
Mr. Rutley we have user guidelines for commenting on CFN. You have to post using your full name or register your pseudonym. That doesn’t guarantee you can post any thought you pull out of your posterior.
We are here to entertain and inform our viewers. If you want to spout hate or spew lies the Freeholder might be a better choice for you.
Thanks
All I said was I think Hugo did a great job. That is hate or a lie?

What transformation” since 2006 is former mayor KIlger talking about and taking claim for? Anybody have a clue?
Sounds like a typical politicians statement about nothing when the intelligent thing to have done would have to been to smile, nod and wave farewell. Bye Bob.
An unfortunate legacy of corruption and unnecessary financial burden. Only one direction left to travel, forward into the future.
Thank God Leslie O did not need the 640 votes pissed away on Jamie. Cornwall now has a chance to flourish!
Jules….I could not wait to get up today to read your comments on last nite’s election…Looks like we won our cause….for now…..Cornwall maybe has a future……now if we could get rid of the other cliques……and fakes…!…..
Gerry did you ever think I took votes away from Bob and not Leslie? Add up my votes and Bob’s and Leslie is in second amigo.
I did the math. Even with Jamie’s votes Bob would have finished second.
Hugger I was looking at the vote total reported last night. The final poll was added.
Oh ok. I was using the numbers in this article.
@Gerry Flaherty…Unnecessary comment. Perhaps one day you will get it, just obviously not today.
Hugger1 comment : “Jamie….you may have lost personally, but Cornwall had a massive change at the council table with a 63% turnover. Jaime and Cornwall were able to obtain what they wanted….CHANGE.”
So very true “Hugger”, personally without CFN & Jamie, the Public would of never known half of the fiascos that were going on around us ! Would we (citizens) have gotten the whole story from the other two media ? Those are questions you have to ask yourself ? Although I’m ecstatic with a 63% flush (change), I was hoping for a bigger flush ! All the best to you Les !
I feel if it wasn,t for Jamie Gilicig and the cfn we would not of gotten the change Cornwall needed.I and others voted for Jamie and do not believie for one second our votes didn,t matter.Thankyou Jamie and goodluck in the future.
I agree with Marc and Marc L. It is a huge thank you to Jamie that Bare Ass has been kicked to the dump where he belongs. Jamie never feel sad that you lost the election you won by the power of the pen. I don’t think that you would have liked to be mayor and I wrote that to you even though you didn’t publish it. I knew that about you and your talent is in writing. Now Cornwall can try and heal but I won’t be there at all but I will be rooting for the people to wake up and make good changes. Yes there are others that have to be tossed out as well and this is the beginning. South Stormont lost big time and into the mighty dark ages – it is finished capoot.
which included gross media bias by the Seaway News & Cogeco.
You know what’s biased? The comment section on this blog. After Jamie goes to great lengths to promote freedom of the press/ freedom of speech, he removes whatever comments don’t boost his ego.
That’s a very false statement you just made Edward. We just have a policy that limits trolling. It’s working out quite well thank you.
Add in a new CAO in January and the new council should be a lot better than the current lame-duck version.
I want to offer Leslie O’Shaughnessey my congratulations and I always had a lot of respect for what Leslie did to walk out on Bare Ass. If that were me in Leslie’s place I could not handle it at all either. Like Hugger said there are more on council that we don’t want and it will take the public time to wake up and see the truth. If it were not for Jamie’s CFN no truth would have been exposed – none, nada. If people have any kind of intelligence and respect and they want to push Cornwall forward they would give in their ideas, keep their eyes and ears open on the mayor and council at all times and get rid of this nepotism and cronyism and all the others “good ole boys club” that has wrecked Cornwall into the ground by Bare Ass and his thugs. Throw the clique out of town and that is one of the first things to do. Send them all packing and throw them on the nearest bus or train out of town. If you can’t find that throw them into the garbage truck and that is still too good for them.
Congratulations to all winners!!! Now is the hardest part. I hope very much that you will take a good and thoughtful care of citizens, will stop the city taxes raise, and will cut down police constables’ wages. That will be a good beginning!
Congratulations to Leslie O’Shaughnessy well done Mr. Mayor were very proud of you. With all due respect to some persons who post comments on CFN the Election is over it’s time to come together taking pot shots and making ignorant comments should no longer rule the day. Lets move forward together.
I certainly stand in agreement with William R Parisien comment.
Jules…I swear…….i’m gonna drop my cookies man ..you have to stop cracking me up like this…..Wow..you sure know how to tell’em like it is…..Congrats to Mr. O’Shaughnessy for his win , Jamie thanks for bringing light into the dark city of sin…..I speak for myself and many others who were refused justice in the city that sleeps together……alot of people are proud of the place we call home…and bullies and arrogant power trippers will eventually crumble …cause ..in the end….their faces are known and remembered for what they have done…most have escaped criminal charges and that is enough of a raise…IF I were Perry Dunlop and I still cared …I did say if he still cares …he would be happy for this change……there are still alot of peadophile protectors to work on…….Historic my ass…..!…..
{Moderated} Jules, please. A little decorum. (and for the really stupid people out there this is your admin moderating a comment of Jules. These are not Jules words and yes, she’s a very real and at times very frustrating person.
Now if we can only get the head honchos in the city of Cornwall to retire their positions the healing can begin.
I think with a new mayor and revised city council we will not see some of the crap that was pulled off the last four years in Cornwall (city administrators not heeding council’s instructions, whistle-blowers being dealt with and taxpayers uninformed, etc.
Hey I’m just hoping that this crazy boycott is over so we can start to hire help before I keel over from overwork!
I do have my hopes up on Leslie and hope that he comes good. He is the only hope so far to straighten out the mess that was caused by Bare Ass and his thugs. The higher ups in the administration have to go as well to really clean house and hire better people. Some miracles have to happen before it gets any worse off. Jamie I thought that you already had a staff to help you out. I too hope that the boycott is over. I don’t think that Leslie is a mean spirited person at all and seems like a good and fair man to me. It also depends on the businesses themselves how they handle things. Talk to Leslie Jamie and I know that he appreciated you filming him when he was running. FRUSTRATING YOU DON’T KNOW THE HALF OF IT. LOL LOL. ROLF!
I think with the new mayor and council the city will be better run. The city adminsitration (not council) must understand that they are to do what they are told by council, they cannot do what they want (as seen in the last council a few times). If it is made clear to them that insubordiantion will not be tolerated then I think we can get the city managers onside. If not, they can be fired with cause and replaced. Depending on their contracts it might cost some $$ to fire them. But if you fire one or two who won’t toe the line the others will get the hint.
It’s not over ’til it’s over… watch out for the signing authorities and deal making privileges that Kilger and Finn wield outside of the council chamber(until a new council is sworn in).
According to provincial law the current council is not allowed to agree / sign anything over $50K. Anything over $50K has to wait for the new council.
Christopher North yes I sure had some really good deorum of Bare Ass that would have made you drop your cookies in laughter but Jamie moderated it. LOL LOL. ROLF! What I am hoping for is really good change for Cornwall and I hope that Hellen and Perry Dunlop are following what is going on in Cornwall. You couldn’t ask for some of the nicest people that God put on this earth. God bless Perry, Helen and the girls.
Jules….we agree again. Yes, change is needed. But it won`t happen overnight.
Hugger I agree that real change is going to take time and not right away. I sure can see your point. I have been so busy today and not feeling up to the mark but all I have on my mind today is for good changes to happen. Cornwall has been sealed with one scandal after another and Bare Ass has gotten away with too much and this has to stop. The first thing that all of you did right was toss Bare Ass to the garbage dump where he belongs along with some of his councellors. I wish that three others would have joined him in the trash dump as well.
Beware of the signing authority that still lies with Kilger and Finn… the $50,000 dollar limit applies only to spending — the real threat now is giveaways and subsidies to developers, friends, and potential employers.
Residential developments, Cornwall Harbour divestiture and other giveaways and sign-offs are in their hands.
Simon….and nothing that can’t be undone by the new council. The harbour divestiture is a long process. So, nothing will happen on that for a while. And do you think Bobby would be stupid enough to try and pull a fast one knowing that it can be undone?
Hopefully that process will end. It makes the attempt to delist our waterfront become more obvious in scope.
“Delist?”

And look who was pushing for delisting but former mayor Bob Kilger’s campaign manager Pat Finucan. http://domino.city.cornwall.on.ca/Active/Development/egenda.nsf/965d04e85bb82eb4852573ae007b4532/17424992ff246b20852577970055ddec/$FILE/Motion%20on%20Delisting%20for%20City%20Council%20.pdf
Essentially Mr. Kilger and his friends want delisting to sync with their harbour deal with the Feds. It’s all ugly.
